I was searching on Craigslist for parts for my '83 Trans Am that badly needed some attention. I put in "Firebird" in the search, and up popped a gorgeous red 1988 GTA. All the features I wanted, the color I wanted, the price I could afford, and CLOSE! I e-mailed the girl several times in the next two days with my phone number and told her she had all but sold the car if I could get a hold of her. Told her I was VERY interested and how soon could I meet her? The next Monday, I went out to take a look and test drive it. Tuesday, I went back, check in hand and we finished the deal. WOW that was fast...but I had my dream car. It ran, it drove, it was rust free. The interior needed attention and the electronics were all but shot. WHO CARED! Flowmaster exhaust and K&N...the bonus goodies!
The bad: Very, very little coolant, 1.5 quarts of oil in the crankcase, cruise didn't work, radio crapped out on the way home, seat motors didn't work, headlights flipped up on occasion, and the wiper blade was too short for the holder, so it left a nice arc on the windshield. Who cared?? It was daylight, sunny, and the seat fit me perfectly anyway!! YEE-HAA! Filled up the coolant and drove her home on March 24, 2009! Stopped on the way and got a new air filter, new wiper refills, and everything needed to change the oil. She's mine now, and I couldn't be happier.
Check out my pictures and you'll see she's just finished getting a VERY shiny new coat of Flame Red Metallic paint. She turns a LOT of heads now and gets a lot of respect, but we still got a lot of work to do! The interior needs new carpet and upholstery, and the electronics have to be sorted out. Fiero HVAC controls anyone??
Everything but leather seats and a 350.
Fresh paint job, door moldings removed, antenna shaved, badges removed, fiberglass aero wing installed, special color-keyed lettering
