In 2004, on my way to buy a VW GTI R32, I stopped at my local Scoobie dealership because my friend who was with me said he knew a saleman there that might be able to give me a good deal. The R32's had just come out and I test drove one. I liked it very much, nice German fit-n-finish interior with leather, but although it was the best performance car stock that VW offered in their line up at the time, it drove and handled too much like my '99 M3; on the other hand, the STi had TONS of punch and pull over my M3 and the R32. Moreover, the fact that VW dealerships weren't dealing on R32's at the time and well Subaru dealerships weren't dealing on STi's either but my friend's saleman friend gave me $4500 off on the STi when everyone else was paying $1000 over MSRP won me over.
