Can you mob that old school?
On July 21, 2007 I bought my 2nd F-body – a 1985 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. Purchased from the original owner, this TA had seen better days.
Once a fresh and exciting metallic blue and silver Trans Am, the once proud “screaming chickens” were faded, cracked, and in the case of the hood bird – rusted. Unregistered for over 2 years when I bought it, it barely started up and ran. The engine dieseled, the belts squealed, it had an erratic idle, and would even die on the freeway. The interior was in poor shape with the headliner deteriorating and the seats faded and torn up. Aside from the faded blue paint, the body was relatively straight except for a couple dents and a missing fender ground effect. The worst exterior issue was rust on the hood where the huge screaming chicken used to be.
To most, it would probably be a nightmare project, but underneath all the faded paint and rust, I could see the mean black Trans Am it has transformed into over the past year.
I’ve got a few BIG ideas in my head right now so stay tuned to see where I go with this project.

I hit my separated meshgrid taillights with 4 coats of Niteshades and 3 more of VHT hi-temp clearcoat. I also blacked out the front amber driving lights. I think it gives the TA a more aggressive look. Pics coming soon!

I blacked out the side markers today with VHT Nite Shades. It's a quality product I feel is well worth its $13 price tag. Oh yeah, and they look great on my TA too. I want to hit a few more parts with the Nite Shades and I'll take some new pics when its done.

Progress on the project has been really slow lately due to a lack of funds. Also, I have decided to scrap the plans for an LS1 swap - due to the decreasing price of LS1 F-bodies. I would much rather purchase a 98+ rather than swap an LS1 into my 3rd gen for a number of reasons. If the right car at the right price comes my way, the "Budget Bandit" project may very well be over.

You are on to some thing there. It is going to look great once you get her finished. 15 stars for your effort.
Great car
Nice T/A, looks good.
Doing the LS1 swap would be cool, but with the price of early LS1 f-body's falling, buying one of those would be easier.
Thanks 4 the comment, man! Posted the photoshop pic on www.nttga.net
