1980 TA with 77/78 nose swap.
This is a factory Y84 car, factory Special edition car and factory WS6 car. By 1980 the WS6 option included some massive rear disk brakes instead of the drum brakes the earlier 2nd gens had.
The nose was swapped for the 77/78 style nose.
The original SE gold trim was lost when the car was repainted, so I ordered new trim and reapplied all the trim.
Most of the he original gauges were non functional after the 301 turbo was removed.
Autometer mechanical gauges were added to include stock information like oil pressure, volts and temp. Extra gauges were added for oil temp and fuel pressure.
The original engine was a 301 turbo v8. While it sounds impressive on paper it was not very powerful in stock form.
It was replaced with a 7.4L V8 with a bigger cam, long tubes headers and true duals.
In stock form the engine was rated at 425HP/500TQ. With the cam I would expect 450HP+
The stock suspension was great for it's time when ordered with the WS6 option which included bigger sway bars, heavier springs, big rear disc brakes and wider 15x8 wheels. With all excess weight removed like A/C, front bumper, and inner fenders the factory WS6 suspension does very well.
In the rear a set of ladder bars were added and sub frame connectors were welded to connect the car front to back and left to right.
7.4L V8/big stall/th400 transmission/8.5 3.23 posi disc rear axle
Most electronics have been removed. Inside most gauges are mechanical. The stock radio was replaced with a more modern pioneer CD player and speakers.
Under the hood and MSD ignition controls spark.
The factory 85mph speedometer was replaced with a 160mph unit from an earlier TA.
Back lit autometer gauges were added for additional information that there was no factory gauge for. A manual cut off switch for the fuel pump and a switch for a set of secondary electric fans was added in the dash pocket below the radio set through a piece of blacked out plastic.
