About this Current Vehicle:

Yes I know, same as the other car. difference is it originally had a 383 that I parted out and was trying to sell the car. I came to my senses and decided to keep the car and build it back up again, except this time take baby steps instead of jumping from boltons to a 383. I'll start out with the headers and trans from before, along with a cam only setup. goal is 11 second 1/4 e.t. cam only all motor.

Since the block had to be align honed anyways there was no reason for me to stick with a 2 bolt main block so....

lets make that 4 bolt mains. Good thing scott collects as many parts as I do.

Ok, some good news and bad news.

Bad news first...
My crank journals were out of round. this will add some machinework and cost since they need to be turned down .010". This doesn't upset me too much. Installing it without checking everything then having a 3rd blown engine... that would upset me.

Good news:
A couple goodies were delivered today!

My line lock.

And my rod & main bearings.
The bearings are Clevite 77 P-series for .010" under. Now with these I can drop them off at the machine shop and the rotating assembly can then be sent out for balancing!

I finally got off my lazy ass to tear down and inspect my new shortblock. I was very pleased with its condition. All of the rods and pistons look great as does the crankshaft and block. The bearings have a little wear on them so I'll just replace them (should do it anyways.) Looks like monday I'll bring the parts down to the machine shop and have them look over them. I think I'll do my first bottom end rebuild on something that won't be spinning to 7000 rpm and more a stock rebuild.

On to the pictures!

First piston pulled out. Its amazing how easily they pop out when everything is not fucked up.
