When I turned 16 my aunt gave me this car. She was the original owner, and had been saving it to give to me. I thought I was the shit, having a 'classic' (not really) muscle car (not really). At least it had a V8 though. But being the anemic 4.9L (301ci) 2barrel V8 was outragously slow, but being 16 I thought it was fast. It lost to a classmates '95 Accord V6 that was riced out =(
The Firebird was turd brown, but I had it painted black, and got some cheap-ass American Racing wheels for it. It looked quite nice, but still a dog in performance.
As fate would have it, I came across a vintage 455 from a '70 GTO in an abandoned shed. I spent loads on money getting parts for it, Edelbrock aluminum heads, Holley 800 double pumper carb, Torker II intake manifold, total engine rebuild and what not. I ran out of funds, and nobody to assemble the motor. Quoted price by a reputable machine shop was $1000 to assemble, and that didn't even include the motor swap.
Stupidly enough, I had to sell the parts off to help pay for a trans rebuild on my 2001 Camaro. After that I gave the car back to my aunt.
