SwiftFiero's 1986 Pontiac Fiero

Currently Under Construction

1986 Pontiac Fiero
1986 Pontiac Fiero

About this Current Vehicle:

All stock, all the time.

Factory Options:

Sunroof.
Wing.

Exterior Modifications:

-Lots of dirt. > Considering a repaint in red, or red/gray rockers... it just looks good on notchbacks ok? Plus paint matching this gunmetal would be difficult.

-Busted rocker panel. > Considering a little fiberglass here to clean things up, depends on how soon I repaint.

-Tasteful 16" alloy rims. > No qualms here but a 16" front 17" rear stagger could help clean up handling, will be investigating tire sizing...

-Bald as %#&( BF Goodrich rubber. > Some brand new rubber for the summer is definitely in the budget.

-Gently faded stock side trim. > Shave the side moldings? This could really clean up the look of the car, will investigate in better weather.

Interior Modifications:

-Average 1986 tears in drivers seat, passenger seat pleasantly in-tact... previous owner a bachelor or hermit?! > A new seat or two would be nice, but I love the style of the stock seat covers, I wonder if a 4 point harness would look cheesy or unecassary...

Performance:

-Completely rusted/leaking EGR valve. Missing oil filler cap. > New powertrain is going in this spring, an LX9 3.5L V6 will be installed right quick... hopefully.

-Beaten to %@&_ and back engine mounts, rock and rolls harder back there than I can! > Either replacing with poly or aluminum when the new engine goes in, still havn't decided...

Suspension/Chassis:

-"Performance" softened brakes, fade faster than condensation on my windshield. > Bigger discs and better calipers are coming down the pipe here, gotta be able to stop the extra horses.

-Creaky front ball joint, makes corners more exciting! Rear wheel bearing grinds gently, sounds soothing at highway speeds. Stock struts and springs, nice and cushy, softer than the brakes! > A few knuckles and bearings and tie rods, plus struts and springs and I wont have any gripes here.

-Ghastly 4X4 wheelgap. > A 1-2" drop along with tire sizing should help fix this up.

Drivetrain:

N/A

Electronics:

-Random tape deck, dash speakers functional, no volume to speak of. > Looking into buying a new head unit, mp3/bluetooth sounds nice, would be cool to run MP3s off my phone into my car...

-Discovered odd red lightbulbs in place of lower courtesy lights activated by switch in dash where the trunk popper resided!? Was my Fiero a former "Lub Macheen"!? > I'll be trying to reinstall the trunk popper if the car is wired for one... will relocate "romance light" switch to cigarette lighter location...

-Also discovered half completed alarm system, currently activated by push button under dash, best horn EVER! > I will eventually complete the install, and fix the horn... in that order.

To-Do List:

N/A

Nice Fiero. I am also about to replace the 2.8 in my Camaro with a 3.4. With the 3500 heads you will get alot more power than 200, you will probably get around 250. That combo is being worked on by a couple of guys that I know of.

Good starting point. Looks like a lot of potential there.
