About this Current Vehicle:

It started with a vision, followed by a plan, then lots of discovery and number-crunching, and finally endless hours of back-breaking labor all for the gratification of saying "my" car.
Bought my new 45th Anniversary 2009 Mustang GT in February and right now, she's un-modded (performance wise)... but watch out, that'll all change by summer 2010!

Rear Suspension / Gears Upgrade

Today we pulled the rearend so that I could start the upgrade to the rear suspension and change out gears. The new parts include: FRPP 3.73 gears w/ axle girdle, Bilstein HD shocks, H&R Super Sport springs, and BMR rear suspension parts: LCAs, UCA w/ mount and bushing, and panhard bar. While I'm at it, I plan to clean and paint the rearend.

TPMS Capsule Update #2

One improvement suggestion is to use "fix a flat" to pressure up (35 psi) the capsule initially followed by air, if req'd. This way if there are any leaks in the PVC joints, this will seal it up. It took me a couple of frustrating times to get a good seal before I came up with this idea. Additionally, it's sensor safe as well.

Midlife & My New Mustang - Are they related or just coincidence?

For many, many years I’d been wanting to buy, restore or build a “muscle car”; it’s one of those teenage activities that you watched others do, but never got to do yourself. The hours of reading and planning are countless and when I thought I was close to starting, some crisis pushed the dream back for a few more years. Then sometime after my 50th birthday, I got that feeling again, and this time I wasn’t going to lose it, so I bought a 2009 Mustang GT.
Some say it was a midlife crisis thing. Honestly, I just felt it was time to do something for myself and be a little selfish for once. I mean, what else could it be?” I don’t feel any different. Nothing has changed at home… I love my wife and family, the kids are grown and mostly out of the house, and I’m looking at retirement in another 5 or so years. Life couldn’t be better, right?

So why a Mustang? I guess one could say the Mustang and I have paralleled life, each surviving the changing times, some good and some bad. Another possibility is that I’m the last living generation that didn’t own one -- my Dad a 1966 and my son a 2005. But the reason I like best is, it was the perfect project car; not too expensive, plenty of aftermarket parts, and one heck of a good looking retro-styled car from the 60’s and early 70’s. What better way to celebrate the first half of life (damn, there’s that midlife thing again). So I decided to take something new -- a 2009 Mustang GT, and create something old -- a 1970 Mustang BOSS 302.

At this point, the car has become the subject of torment and humor with my family and neighborhood that I only drive it on nice days, keep it covered in the garage, and generally baby it. I’ve learned to laugh about it. Overtime, I’ve become aware of the things about the car that work well and not so well. I know what to brag about and what to fix that’s been overlooked. It’s given me new energy and purpose. It feeds my daydreams and takes me places I can share my car with others with the same passion. I love to work on my car. By the way, the real crisis is there just isn’t enough time or money to do what I want to do. Again, I’m waiting…
