This is the first car I ever bought, purchased when I was only 15. It was $1200 in '88, needed tons of work from the moment I got it, and I drove it pretty much daily until 1995. Now it's getting its well deserved reincarnation, modified a bit, restored a bit, customized a bit. Check out some details athttp://groups.msn.com/dbsmustang
This is an original H code Mach 1. From the factory, it came with a 351W 2V motor, FMX transmission, front disc brakes, Mach 1 exterior trim, Mach 1 deluxe interior, remote drivers mirror, rear wing spoiler, and an AM radio. Overall, a slightly optioned, but very basic Mach 1 for 1970.
The exterior is pretty much stock. I went with the original paint color, but chose to do it in a modern base/clear for durability and shine. I've also added the OE front spoiler and a power antenna (in the stock location). Probably the most noticeable change is the wheels. They're 2003 Ford Mustang Mach 1 17" heritage Magnum wheels wrapped in the OE 245/45/17 Goodyears. I'll also be adding a vintage Dixco hood tach, which is the same as the old Ford Power Parts hood tach that was sold through dealerships in the '60s and '70s.
The interior is getting a basic restoration with some nifty convenience, safety, and performance modifications. I'm replacing the stock seats with late model leather highback seats (with adjustable lumbar) that have a similar shape to the originals. Also, I've added modern 3 point front seatbelts, a tilt column, air conditioning, a hide-away CD deck, remote passenger mirror, lighted rearview mirror with built-in compass, power locks, keyless entry alarm system, remote trunk release, rear firewall, and a Shelby style Lecarra steering wheel. A generally convenient, safe, and fun place to be strapped into.
The engine is a basic rebuilt 302 with shorty headers, 2.5" exhaust with an X-pipe crossover, and a 4 barrel Holley on a Weiand intake. I've got a vintage Paxton SN60 supercharger that will be going on it as well. This is temporary until I get a stroked 351W built in the future.
The front suspension was rebuilt with PST polygraphite bushings, stock arms, upper arms lowered 1.75" with Pro-motorsports negative wedge kit and eccentric eliminator, 1" Addco sway, stock springs, Monroematic plus shocks. The rear suspension supports the stock 9" rearend on 5 leaf mideye springs, heavy duty shackles, poly bushings, 3/4" Addco sway, and underrider traction bars, with Monroematic Plus shocks as well.
The tranny is a stock late model AOD 4 speed automatic. The rearend is the original stock open 9" with 3.00 28 spline gears. The chassis has new floors & torque boxes, a one piece export brace, straight Montecarlo bar, Global West subframe connectors, and a Shelby style driveshaft hoop.
We've done too much wiring on the car to list everything... stuff like relays for the headlights and electric fan, security system, town & country horns, CD deck and amps and speakers, etc.
