1969 shortbed 400/727 and 8 3/4 rear
Aug 30
Well I've had the truck for almost 2 weeks. I've found out its not a 383 but a 400 (chrysler B engines) For most mopar guys this would be a let down but the 400's got bad reps when new because they were smog motors. Same stroke, just a bigger bore 383. But w/out all the smog equipment and a bump in compression and cam they do fine. They also lend well to stroker kits, so I'm pleased.
So far all I have done was change the (black) oil and today finished up adding some gauges. I was pleased to see 40 psi of oil press. The engine is a good one. Now if I only had a gas gauge that worked. Next on the list will probably be a new master cyl. and adjusting of the brakes. I pulls hard to the right when you apply them and the pedal doesn't come all the way back up, leaving the brake lights on.
Oh yeah, I also have a B&M StarShifter that's going in. The current "kia-ford escort-what ever it is" shifter just isn't going to cut it. It will slide from first to third, its sloppy. That and a stall converter around 2400 RPM.
Really nothing exotic to post about, just excited an feeling good about the new truck. I hope me and her have allot of miles together.

Clean it up IT"S NASTY under the hood, though the rest of the rust/patina will stay as is.
