About this Current Vehicle:

I flew myself and SappySE107 (from 60degreev6.com) down to Texas a few years ago to buy this car for $2,600. I believe the numbers for the manual Getrag 284 5 speed Z34's is something like 1,800 out of how many Z34's Chevy made, so my car is not a common car. I got the money for it from being rear ended in my then current project, my 91 Lumina Z34. We had just spent a full week being the first people swapping a Getrag 284 out of a 92 Pontiac GTP into the 91 (which had the computer controlled 4T60-E auto from the factory) a couple weeks before. I barely had 1k miles on the swap when I got rear ended by a chick an a Saturn that hit me so hard, her car went under the back of mine, and lifted both of my rear tires off the ground. Being a hot chick, and me a normal guy, all of the emergency crews were all gathered around her to make sure her little airbag burns were ok, screw the guy who's head just about got ripped off. I'm not bitter though Wink The previous owner had done some stuff to make the car handle and look nice, but he didn't do anything in the way of engine performance. So I picked up where he neglected to start...

Vehicle Journal:

Apr 16

Finished ALDL interface and power inverter install in center console.

I have been wanting to tune the ECM in my car for a while now. I've had the EEPROM burner (old school, I know...) for a while now, and recently I built an interface circuit so I can monitor what is going on in my engine. I like my car, so even though I've had the ability to modify my EEPROM, I haven't done it because I had no way to see what was going on in the car. Well, now I can, so now I will start learning to tune. Pics are on pages 2 and 3 of the album for my car.

Factory Options:

PS, PW, PL, Cruise, A/C, Map Lights

Exterior Modifications:

18" x 10 TSW Hockenheim R rims

Interior Modifications:

Chevrolet Seat covers

Performance:

K&N drop in in a gutted airbox, Polished and Tapered TB, Custom chip by SappySE107, Magnecor Competition KV85 plug wires, ported and polished heads (by SappySE107), Polished LIM, Tapered and polished TB, 13 degree retard on exhaust cams, Lighter Lifters (I don't think they are the 38% less then stock, as they are the first set Ben had, and since then I think he found lighter ones then I have which would be the 38% lighter ones), 2 1/4 Mandrel Bent exhaust, hollowed cat (because it was rattling, which was very irritating. This happened to both of my Z34s because of the lopey idle from the 13 degree retard on the exhaust cams), FFP Poly Dogbone, Optiima Red Top, RSM Racing Big Brake Swap front and rear (13" front full floating from a 91 Corvette ZR1 w/ Baer PBR calipers, SS braid brake lines, 12" rear from a 91 Corvette ZR1w/ Baer PBR calipers, SS braid brake lines), and AIR Injection system delete.

Suspension/Chassis:

Front: RSM Racing Poly bushing kit, Suspension Techniques Front Lowering Springs, KYB GR2 struts, Energy Suspension Poly Sway Bar Bushings, Energy Suspension Poly Dust Boots (on ball joints, and tie rod ends), Front STB from a Cutty Convertible
Rear: RSM Racing Poly bushing kit, TwinDualCam.com Rear Adjustable Coil Over Kit, KYB GR2 struts

Drivetrain:

Shortened shifter linkage (cut and rewelded by me) to make the shifter short throw :P

Electronics:

Sony CDX-M600 head unit (the first Sony with a full face display that flipped over to reveal the buttons and a smaller display on the back), 3 Sony and 1 MTX Thunder amplifiers in trunk on an amp rack (pre Xplode thankfully,) 2 2 channel, and 1 4 channel, and a Sony electronic crossover to shoot frequencies where they need to go. The 4 channel runs the Polk Audio 6 1/2's in the doors, and the Polk Audio 1" tweeters in the doors. 1 2 channel runs the Polk Audio 6x9s in the rear deck. The remaining Sony is not hooked up because it was only 65 watts, which is where the MTX comes into play because 150w rms > 65w. It runs the 12" Kicker free airs that are mounted to a piece of MDF mounted behind the back seat. This all was installed before I got the car. The only part I have added since I got the car is the CDX-M600 HU, and the MTX amp. I have also added a cheap 2 way pager alarm to the car too. I just built an ALDL interface circuit so I can monitor my OBD1 ECM since I want to get into computer tuning my own car. I also modified my old power inverter and installed it in my center console because the battery in my old laptop sucks, and won't even last long enough to boot the stupid thing up :(

To-Do List:

Repaint, the Texas sun showed no mercy to this poor cars paint. I did trade off a car to a guy that paints, so I have a free paint job waiting for it, all I have to do is tell him when, and pay for paint. I've seen pics of this guys work, he is good. One pic I saw was an old classic 68 or so Mustang. I figure if someone trusts a car like that to him, he's worthy of painting my car, lol. Struts need replaced, Elkhart potholes are absolutely insane, so now I need like 3 rims.... I have a 96 crate engine I bought from SappySE107, it has 20k miles on it. Before that beast goes in I plan on getting the 96 top end to swap in and weld up a set of headers, so for now it makes a nice garage ornament. I also want to put the battery in the trunk, relocate the ignition coils (why GM would you put them right under an exhaust manifold?!?), and maybe down the road fab up a turbo setup.

Nice Z! I really like the wheels. I've been thinking about getting some rims for mine, but can't decide on what style to get.

I think the chip gives 8-10whp stock, so I would hope with wear and tear the minimum I am getting is 220 at the crank. The car had Mobil 1 from 30k miles, so that helps wear.

well I hear Ben does some nice P&P work, and those twin dual cam engines are pretty good stock so id say your doing 220 at least?

Thanks Smile Yeah, the stock rating is 210. Autos got 200. I honestly have no idea what it's putting out right now, nor do I have any idea what kind of time it is running. I haven't had it to the track since the cat was clogging/rattling.
