67RSSS's 1968 Chevrolet Impala SS

This is a VERY long term project....

About this Current Vehicle:

We bought this vehicle and got more of a project than we bargained for! The car has a lot of history and some unusual options, so we are going to restore it. We have gotten a donor for it, and are slowly accumulating parts for it. Hope to have it up and running before we are old. We have the donor stripped to a shell, and once the Camaro is done, we will pull the donor frame and build up the new suspension. The car need new floopans and trunk pans, cowl work, and work on the pass side rocker into the side of the door frame. Fenders and quarters of course. Interior was redone in the recent past, but will get a complete makeover. Console is still in good shape, and we have traded for a better set of dash gauges. These cars are a bit harder to find parts for...

Factory Options:

This is a Z03 (SS) with a 327 and a powerglide. The car has A/C, and the Z03 package, Front Disks, Dual exhaust (rusted and gone), power steering and brakes, courtesy lamp group, rallye wheels (15x7). I am learning how to fill this out!

Exterior Modifications:

Someone added pinstriping, it will go. The car is an N6 vehicle (Cordovan Maroon with a white vinyl top), not exactly a common color scheme. She will get all new badging, grill, and trim. We already located a complete set of body side molding for it and have that stored away.

Interior Modifications:

Putting her all back to showroom new. Parchment interior, floor shift in console. Currently completely stripped of all interior.

Performance:

Was sorta running but rusty, and sad. When done, she will get a slight cam change for the 300hp version of the 327. Other than that, since the original trans is gone I am really thinking that a 700R4 would help the economy a bit. The original 2:73 would need to be changed to something more reasonable or course. Sometime in the late 70's, early 80's, a Holley induction system was added, so we are on the lookout for the correct heads, carb, etc.

Suspension/Chassis:

Will have factory original. Not planning on building a G-Machine, but a period correct cruiser.

Drivetrain:

327 (original block) with a (non-original) TH400. 2:73 12bolt (why???) rear. HEI was added at some point in the past, and realistically, we will keep it. I hate points.

Electronics:

Will be factory original.

To-Do List:
