This is my 1970 Chevelle SS 396. I bought it in '99 my senior year of High School and drove it for about a year rain or shine. It was a 50/50 car. Looked good from 50 feet away going 50mph. I decided to tear it down for a quick 3 week "freshening up" in Oct. 2000. The project got a little out of hand and I ended up doing ALOT more than I had originally planned. It was off the road for six years untill the first test drive on 10-05-06.
restoration:

The car was dismantled and stripped to metal. Not much rust, but there was some to fix around the wheel openings and now removed vinyl top. All the engine compartment metal was also pulled and restored, and the engine/tranny came out to clean up and to gain access to the firewall. New front wiring harness was installed along with all new body bushings.
I gutted the interior and Brownbreaded (like dynamat) the whole thing. The seats covers were custom made for me, and the rest of the interior is pretty stock looking (new). I added a tach conversion, got all the dash wiring sorted and got my aftermarket gauges functioning (the whole dash was dead before).
The bumpers were straightened and re-chromed and much of the exterior trim/emblems are new. New weatherstrips from front to back.
Still lots to wrap up, and gathering parts for many of the projects to come. I did all the work on this car myself except for the seat covers and the actual bodywork. I prepped and painted it.

Its all back together. I haven't gotten it all dialed in, but I can drive it at least. I had it together last month, but haven't had a chance to drive/mess with it since then. It was an interesting adventure. Now that summers over, its back on the road. Oh, and I finally tooks some pics that aren't in the driveway. Yay.

thats going to put the nova project on the backburner.
Installing a new cam/lifters and valvesprings, new timing set, and recurving the HEI. Also finally installing the Edelbrock 750 Carb, Edelbrock RPM airgap intake thats been sitting around forever. Should come back better than ever (after burning up my nova fund

Well I installed the shocks and springs this last weekend, cause it was the first nice day in a long time. I still have to install the rest of the suspension and brakes, but I was aching to get some of my project done before spring. Its a little lower than I want so I'll probably bring it up about an inch all around. Let me know what you guys think!
Super Sport package, 350hp 396c.i. Green, buckets, Floor shift, A/C, Power disc/drum, and thats about it.
Cowl induction, Changed to VW "arrow silver" with black factory spec. stripes.
Custom covered seats, Aftermarket oil, temp, amp gauges, Shiftworks tach conversion, tilt column, deluxe belts, Grant classic leather steering wheel, lots of dynamat.
402c.i. Big Block. Lunati 60203 cam, Edelbrock performer RPM airgap intake, Edelbrock 750cfm carb, Oval port heads, Hedmann headers, 3" leads and Flowtech Terminator mufflers into 2.5" tails. MSD 6AL, HEI, K&N, Edelbrock alum. water pump. Still getting it dialed in after the cam install. Picked up some noticable power, but its screaming for a stall and shiftkit.
Needs more compression, but it'll get me by till I can afford to build the 454 shortblock thats collecting dust in the corner.
