I acquired this car in August of 2001 from Kentucky. I saw an ad on Team Chevelle and after some discussion with the owner, decided to head to Kentucky to pick up my new 70 SS396 Chevelle. The car was in decent shape; however, there was work that needed to be done.
My first project was to install a new dash harness (none of the dash lights worked) and then restore the whole dash. I added a new wire harness, new circuit board and lens. The dash received a thorough cleaning and refinishing.
From there, new bumpers were added front and rear. The car was at least looked nice looking enough to cruise around town. However, the hot rod bug was hot on my trails. I struggled with this for some time as this car had a matching numbers 402 (CTX Coded). Having been a product of the 70’s hot rod scene, I acquiesced to my temptation and started the restoration and quest for a blown Chevelle.
I located a 1970 402 block, which was the perfect candidate for my project. My original block is tucked a safe and sound. The build-up of my blown Chevelle project began and is about complete, including paint. I still need to tweak the suspension.
Update:
Even though I didn't build this car to be strip car, I couldn't resist. So after a couple of times out, I am still not very good on the 60' times (hey it's was a 4 speed) but the best time so far is 11.77 @ 120.43 MPH. Working on getting into low 11s or high 10s. :-)
My Chevelle is now a 5 Speed (TKO 600)
Stripes, SS 396, A/C, 5 Speed Bench Seat Car
New Paint and Ralley Wheels.
Basically Stock, other then Auto Meter gauges.
Blown 402 /.10 over, all forge components, 2 650 DP Holleys, All MSD, LS 7 Heads, CompCam Roller Rockers, Hooker Headers w/3" exhaust.

Hey Spider Dan..those two Chevelles are awesome !!
Can't decide which I like better, maybe the '70, but they are both beautiful cars.
Mines just a plain 350 Malibu, which I love, but I'd love to step up to the big block one

Beautiful Chevelle!

Spider Dan Rocks!!! All I can say is you need to be driving behind Dan's chevelle to get a real good look at the blower, then he's gone.
