I owned a 66 and a 67 while dating my wife in high school and have a lot of good memories from those cars. In 2002 while in California doing some military stuff we decided that after 15 years out of the car hobby it was time to get back. We found this one in Yuba City and saw the potential... Didn't think there was any way it would take this long, but after taking it off the frame and being out of town for a couple years it is finally going back together.
Not too sure what the car had originally since it had been "hotrodded" many times over the years.
Nothing too wild here. For right now we are leaving off all the SS badging except the grill and trunk panel. Sure we know it isn't a 427 car, but the badges look so cool! 17" Vintage Wheel Works V-40's. Also, the silver is so bright in the Sun we decided that the polished and anodized aluminum trim wouldn't be bright enough so we had most of it chromed. Weighs a lot, but sure is pretty...
Here we want it to retain a lot of the original muscle car feel, but it does have Procar front seats and will have (when I get around to building it) a custom center console to hide the trans tunnel work.
The powerplant is a relatively mild 454. My buddy had rebuilt it for his 66 ElCamino a while back and he needed some money so I bought it off him. Looking back, I wish I had built my own or went with a GMPP crate motor. Really would love a fuel injected small block, but have never owned a big block Chevelle so we're sticking with this for now. Obviously it has Edelbrock intake, Holley 750 carb, Sanderson headers and Vintage Air Front Runner system on it.
Hotchkis springs, Global West upper and lower A-arms, Hotchkis sway bars, B-body spindles, Baer track 13" disc up front with touring 12" in the rear, Currie lower control arms and adjustable Edelbrock uppers both with Johnny joints. The front parts were really cool four or five years ago, but now I really want to go with SBC adjustable upper A-arms, AFX spindles and an adjustible shock. We'll have to see if I can make these mods while trying to finish the project. They might have to wait for the first winter after completion.
Big change here is a Tremec T-56 Viper six speed. That's probably the biggest $$$ purchase we made for the car besides paint and body. It also has a 68-72 Chevelle 12 bolt rear with a 4.56 gear, Eaton posi and moser axles.
Hate to disappoint anyone, but we're not big sound people. This will have a pretty basic sound system with four speakers and maybe XM radio. My cars in high school had $19.95 Kraco stereos that came from K-mart...
You can see the to-do list is huge, but big things are installing the Vintage Air setup, finishing the custom crossmember, and dynamatting the whole thing along with all the obvious stuff like windows etc.
