About this Current Vehicle:

1997 Chevrolet Cavalier

This car is my wife's car. She bought it new in January of 1998. It was a bone stock base model Cavalier. It didn't even have a radio in it. This was all to change shortly though. Even before we met she was into cars, so she put a Pioneer stereo system and speakers in it and a Pontiac Sunfire spoiler on it as a Dealer installed option. Then she tinted the windows and also put a alarm and fog lights in too. She drove the car for about 2 years or so, and then when we got together... well everything with the car changed!

As you can see, it was pretty much your run of the mill Cavalier. Well, after she moved here, we decided to play around with the car a bit.. and well you'll have to flip through the rest of the site to find out what we did from there....

Vehicle Journal:

UGH!

Thermostat I think went bad on me. Drove her to Harbison one night and on the way home she was acting funny. So drove to and from work one night and she really was in the red.. im gonna swap out thermostats today, hopefully it was the problem. Ill update it when i find out if this was indeed the culprit.

Bumper Cover Saga

Well, for Emily's birthday i took the front bumper cover to a local shop to have it sanded down and re-painted. Long story short, the local shop said there was nothing they can do with it 6 months later. So i did a quick rattle can on it, and put it back on the car. For now, the Cavy is road worthy again, even if she doesn't look perfect. In the future I will have to get the cover professionally painted.

Factory Options:

Automatic, and Air Conditioning. thats about it besides body colored bumpers....

Exterior Modifications:

Exterior Mods:

Well the mods slowly began with wheels. My wife wanted Focal F5's on it. Well we didn't have enough money for the F5's in chrome at the time so I bought the Silver painted F5's in 18" format. Well At the time I was also playing a game on the Focal Web site called "FocalJack" It was a blackjack game, that you played for money online. Well at the end of each quarter, they picked 1 person out of the top ten to win a free set of rims of their choice. I was lucky enough a week after we had bought the silver F5's to get a call stating that I was in 7th place, and thus have won a set of rims of my choice. I chose F5's in Chrome and 18". They came a week later, and I sold my silvers to Jeff(a buddy who was stationed in Hawaii) We used the money for the sale of the silver wheels to buy tires and the rest is history!

The center caps on the rims are evidently a special edition because they are Carbon fiber with black surrounding the word FOCAL instead of yellow. So I took a photo of that too..

This is a photo with just the wheels and alteza style lights on the car, as well as clear corner markers.

Currently the car has these wheels on it, with Kumho Supra Tires.

Now Bodywork Begins

Next up we decided to work on the overall body of the car. First as I mentioned above we put Altezza Style Tail Lights on it, and Clear turn signal lights and clear bumper marker lights as well.

Here's a shot of the front wheel, and corner lights.

Another shot of the front with the clear lamps, along with a side marker lamp that I installed to give it that JDM feel

As you can probably tell with the photos above, We did decide to kit the car. We Opted for the JDM BOMEX body kit. It was very rare, in fact I would say we were the first in South Carolina to have it. Now, however, I've seen numerous of them around.

We did decide to dress up the night lighting too, by adding a under car neon kit in red. Sorry the night photos don't usually turn out too well.

This is the car at another show, and as you can see its big brother is in the background in all its glory!

Interior Modifications:

Interior Mods:

The interior is still very stock in my book.
First up we went and changed the guages with Indeglo ones.
Then we put StreetGlo Pedals on it too so they'd match the guages.

Then We put a RK Sport Red Carbon Fiber Dash kit on, added a RK Sport 2 guage pillar Pod and filled it with APC Indeglo Oil Pressure and Voltage Guages.

We also changed out the Guages that were in the dash from indeglo to Reverse-Indeglo, and put a black carbon fiber bezel around them.

Performance:

Engine and Performance Mods:

So far we've only done a little here and there. The first thing that we did was we purchased a Cold Air Intake pipe by WeaponR at NOPI in '00.

Then this past spring a year ago, I went ahead and installed new engine Mounts. I put the RKSport Upper Polyurathane Insert in, along with the RKSport Lower Polyurathane Mount. This really helped with power delivery to the ground, but makes the car vibrate kinda badly at idle.

Then for her birthday, I had the exhaust re-ran from the Catalytic converter back. We used a 2&1/2" Pipe that formed a custom Y-Pipe in the back, splitting the exhaust into two identical Ractive Mufflers. This gave the car a deeper sound than most of those "bumblebee's" out there, and in my opinion makes it sound good. I can't stand the "pissed off Bee's" or "fart Cannon" exhaust sounds of most of the "import" scene out there.

Suspension/Chassis:

I've also added an Optima Red top battery, and Coil Overs on the car to lower its height just a bit. I don't like the ride the Coil Overs give it, too bouncy, so when I save up some money I plan to renovate the underside of the car with KYB shocks/struts and an Eibach Lowering spring kit.

Drivetrain:

Stock motor and Transmission for now.

Electronics:

Stereo & Multimedia Setup:

Stereo wise, we have a 7 inch flip down from the ceiling by Concept. A Pioneer Premier MP3 Player, with Memphis door speakers, tweeters, and 6x9 components in the trunk deck. I have the NOS bottle 8" sub by Bazooka in the trunk for space conservation, powered by a Kicker amp. All mids and highs are powered by a Memphis Amp.

Ill try to get photos of the system soon, however I am going to be re-doing the Amp rack/sub system soon.

To-Do List:

KYB shocks and Struts
Eibach Pro Kit lowering springs
Repaint front bumper and fix rear bumper.
Cover interior in black leather.
Replace carpet with black carpet.
Replace top of Dash Board, as it cracked due to stresses from the coil over springs.

Engine Work :

Headers to start.
Others to come as time and money progreses.
