When I first started going to school as a fish at A&M the parents told me that if i made all A's and B's in my classes as a Mechanical Engineer then they would but me a car up to 15 grand. Since the 4th gen's first came out, I wanted one because my neighbor bought two brand new (one for his son and one for him) and fell in love.
Of course that was the LT1 with that kickass opti HA but when the LS1 came out, I knew exactly what I wanted to own one day. Well I searched for months and months to find a cheaper F-body that was an 01 or 02 and as you know, its tought to find a stock low mileage car for under 15 that has nothing wrong with it.
I was getting frustrated and began to think that I would just go get a used 2500HD 4x4 like my truck from high school or a little Z71. Well, when i was about to give up, I was talking with my dad about cars one saturday morning when I was home from school and was letting him know how pissed I was. I opened up the houston chronicle and just for shits and giggles looked in the used car section and what did i find? thats right, an 02 Red Z28 with leather, ttops, hurst shifter, and bone stock for 11 grand!
Needless to say I started jumping up and down even though I at the time really did not want a red car at all. Well I call the guy and he says its legit so we drive to northwest houston to check it out which is like 30 minutes from my house in katy. So we get there and of course its filthy under the hood but runs fairly well. Then the guy tells us he just needs money really badly and he has the carfax in hand that we look at and the original window sticker and get this, a transferrable GM extended warranty. So i ended up making a deal (if you really want to know what I payed ask) for less than 11,000 and drove her home, shaking the whole way at this insane deal.
Problems when bought: monsoon speakers blown, superglued A/C vents, skipping CD Player, and low and behold the SES light comes on as I am driving home. Turns out to be a bad cat! Also, rear bumper had a scratch where he spray painted so i inspected it (had no wreck damage) and i had it repainted.
So i get all the minor stuff fixed and sea foamed it because it was never ragged on since it was owned by a 42 year old guy who drove it to work everyday and had 73k miles of pansy driving. needless to say, i blew a good size cloud of crap out. I also claybarred, waxed, and thoroughly detailed everything. Next came the MTI lid, Skip Shift Eliminator, and of course, the SLP Loudmouth.
This is long enough as it is so im just going to stop. But ill leave you with saying that I dont think I could have gotten a better deal and I love the Red now!
