This car was owned by a friend of mine and neighbor Melissa. This was her first car. She had drove it through high school and up until august 2004. At this time, the motor spun a bearing, and she parked it until June 2005. Sometime in early 2005 Melissa called me up, and said she was going to get rid of it. She wanted to know if I wanted to purchase it. I told her sure, and we struck a deal for 500.00 because of the overall condition of the car, and the spun bearing. I purchased it for the 500 bucks around June 2005, and began to clean it up and rebuild it.
The car had many problems. It was sitting on 3 factory wheels, and 1 old RS wheel. Melissa had a blow out on the passenger rear, and had to put a spare tire / wheel on the car temporarily, before the bearing spun. Unfortunately the blown tire broke the ground effect clean off the car and dented the rear quarter up pretty badly. I was able to find a new ground effect for 10 bucks from a junk yard car, and pop out the dent with a mallet. The Front fender on the passenger side also had a pretty big dent, that again, i was able to pop back out with a mallet. It wasnt perfect, but it was alot better.
Down the driver side, there was alot of road paint, where she had hit a freshly painted
stripe, and it kicked up all over the car. I had to wet sand it all down, as it wouldn't come off the car any other way. Then i had to buff it up to a high gloss. The T-tops had the metal edges rusting, so i sanded them down as well and taped them off and re painted them black.
The Interior was mostly stock, however there were issues. The Radio bezel was missing totally. The Shifter surround had been spray painted teal green to match the car, by one of Melissa's ex boyfriends. The shifter had no nob. The driver seat had the usual wear rip on it. The interior was dirty over all, but not un workable.
So shortly after I purchased the car from Melissa, i started working on it. At the time I worked at an auto parts store, which made a mild discount on the parts worth while. I with the help of my neighbor mark, pulled the motor and transmission. We began the rebuild by checking the cylinder walls, honing them, replacing the crank, main bearings, piston bearings, camshaft (Lunati mild cam went in it instead of the stocker) cleaned up the pistons, the intake, and the heads, and put her all back together with fel pro gaskets. I choose to paint the whole engine silver, that way it would be easier to see if there were any future leaks on the motor as well.
While rebuilding the motor, a co-worker and friend of mine at the time was interested in buying the car, as his old thunderbird was broke down, as was any other car he had. Josh seemed really into the camaro, and I told him the only way i would ever sell it is if i were to get enough money to buy a convertible, which is my dream car. He asked what i'd take for the car, and I told him 3000.00. He agreed, and bought the car from me in mid August 2005. I hadnt even had time to break in the new motor. I then turned around with the 3000.00 and bought my '89 Camaro RS Convertible.
Unfortunately, a month later Josh had to buy a new Fuel pump and have it installed, but after that he's been good to go. He put in 4th gen black Trans Am Seats, and a system and to this day, Josh still drives the Camaro. If he ever decides to sell it i hope he calls me, and ill probably buy it back!
The photos of the car will show you more of the before and after of the car.
