HUMMER H3 gets wooden wagon wheels
Artist Matthew Harrison today unveils his latest project entitled ‘Hummer’ at the fifth Zoo Art Fair (17-20 October) - a HUMMER H3 complete with wooden wagon wheels, the iconic installation will be parked on Old Burlington Road, London, opposite the Royal Academy of Arts for the duration of the fair.

Harrison is exhibiting on behalf of East London gallery, Limoncello, one of 57 under six year old galleries, project spaces, artists’ collectives, curatorial groups and publications showcasing works from some of the most exciting art talent in the world.

Harrison has combined the legendary off-road vehicle with ‘Wild West’ wooden wheels to create a sculpture that is a mixture of art, engineering and motoring. For Harrison, the crux of the ‘Hummer’ is formed by both its ‘being’ and its afterlife.

Think it's drivable? Will it blend?

One Million Dollar Icelink Wheels, Free Bentley
Icelink is offering what is likely the world's most expensive and outlandish set of custom-made car wheels ever produced. Covered with more than 12,000 diamonds and 800 sapphires, the set of four rims costs $1 million.

"This is the ultimate luxury item," says Andy Sogoyan, creator of the 1,100-carat wheels and founder of Icelink. "Not only will you acquire a set of the most extravagant rims ever created when you make this purchase, but you will also receive a brand new Bentley Continental GT Coupe and one-year bodyguard service for free."

Sadly, some movie star or rapper will be showing these off at some red carpet affair in the near future. I can guarantee it.

Carbon Fiber Wheels will put You in Poor House
German specialist "Wheelsandmore" has introduced the "Megalight-Forged-Series" for those who want the best money can buy. These two piece wheels combine carbon-fiber rims with ultra light alloy centers and titanium screws (approximately 40% weight savings compared to a stainless steel screw).

According to the “Wheelsandmore”, the 20-inch version of this technically advanced carbon-fiber / alloy wheel weighs a mere 13.2 lbs. That’s compared to 40 lbs of a standard same-size alloy wheel. But nothing comes for free as a set of 20-inch Megalight Forged Series wheels cost $29,000. The carbon-fiber / alloy wheels are available in 18 to 23’’ sizes.

Purdue University Team Developing a Smarter Tire
An experimental tire can sense damage and warn drivers of a potential flat, U.S. researchers said on Tuesday, offering the latest advance in "smart" car technology.

Manufacturers already make tires that can warn drivers when tire pressure is too low but researchers at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, have found a way to make the whole tire into a type of sensor.

"What we have is a multilayer of different materials on the entire tire with different electrical properties. That allows us to then measure anywhere in the tire," said Gary Krutz, director of Purdue's Electrohydraulic Center and a professor of agricultural and biological engineering.

The system can detect problems like cuts, punctures, manufacturing defects, imbalance, degradation and improper mounting.

Krutz and a team at Purdue developed a sensing system that can pick up distinct electrical signals in the tire layers, detecting changes that could lead to a flat or reduce wear, such as uneven air pressure.
