2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI 4-door wings it
At the 2010 New York Auto Show, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo received its true rival from Subaru – meet the new 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI 4-door. The model will mark the first time that the WRX STI has been offered in two body styles.

“The continuous evolution and development of the WRX STI is driven by the strong, loyal and vocal support from thousands of enthusiastic owners of this exciting high-performance vehicle,” said Tom Doll, executive vice president and COO of Subaru of America, Inc. “The 2011 4-door WRX STI will expand the appeal of this iconic performance model to a wider range of driving enthusiasts.”

Subaru said that both 2011 models receive significantly revised suspension tuning and lighter 18-inch wheels for even sharper handling. Power will still come from the outstanding 305-hp turbocharged/intercooled 4-cylinder Boxer engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

The 2011 Impreza WRX STI models will arrive in Subaru dealerships late this summer. Prices will be announced closer to launch.

2011 Subaru Impreza WRX gets wide-body design
About three years ago, Subaru introduced a new Impreza WRX leaving many unimpressed. For the next two years Subaru offered a couple of upgrades here and there. After taking 2010 off without any upgrades, Subaru has now unveiled the 2011 Impreza WRX with a new wide-body design and enhanced handling performance.

The new 2011 Impreza WRX gets a 1.5-inch increase in the front and rear track, firmer rear subframe bushings and wider 17-inch wheels.

“The new wide-body designs mark another major step on the continuous evolution of the WRX to give driving enthusiasts an even more compelling all-wheel drive performance package,” said Tom Doll, executive vice president and COO of Subaru of America, Inc.

The new 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX will hit dealerships later this year with its 265-hp turbocharged/intercooled 2.5L 4-cylinder mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

Prices will be announced closer to launch. The model will make its debut at the 2010 New York Auto Show next week.

New Subaru Impreza R205: High-Performance Version

Improved handling and more power.. what we always want.

New Subaru Impreza R205: High-Performance Version
Subaru has revealed a successor to its Impreza S203 and S204 special performance models with the new S205 that benefits from chassis, engine and styling upgrades. The bad: at least for now, it's only available in Japan.

Billed as the top performance model of the WRX STI lineup, Subaru says that the R205 -where "R" stands for "Road Sport"- makes full use of specially designed features and performance parts of the "WRX STI spec C" model.

In the handling department, the R205 adopts STI tuned dampers, coil springs, flexible type strut tower bar, flexible type lower arm stiffener of front suspension, and 18-inch alloys wrapped in Bridgestone's specially designed RE070 tires size 245/40 R18.

Stopping power is provided by a Brembo brake system with 6-pot calipers up front and 4-pot calipers at the back.

Subaru also tweaked the Impreza WRX STI's engine by adopting an exclusively designed turbocharger with ball bearings for the turbine axle bearing, specially tuned ECU, and a new sport muffler with lowered back pressure exhaust. The result is an increased output of 325-horsepower and 431Nm or 317.9 lb-ft of peak torque.

As for the R205's looks, aside from the different alloy wheels, Subaru added newly designed front under spoiler, rear apron and black roof wing, as well as specially colored front grille and side STI garnish.

02-03 Subaru Impreza WRX Recalled for Fire Hazard

02-03 Subaru Impreza WRX Recalled for Fire Hazard
Subaru is recalling 5,724 2002-'03 Impreza WRX vehicles sold in 16 cold-weather states because fuel leaks in the fuel delivery line, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The vehicles were originally sold in or are registered in South Dakota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Minnesota, Idaho, Iowa, Montana, Colorado, Wisconsin, New York, Wyoming, Michigan, Alaska, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine.

"During cold starts, typically under extremely cold temperatures, fuel leaks in the fuel delivery line could occur where the line connects with a rubber hose," said NHTSA in its summary of the problem. "Fuel leaks, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire."

Customers typically complained of a fuel odor connected with the problem. No fires, crashes, injuries or deaths attributed to this defect have been reported, Subaru said.

Subaru dealers will replace the fuel line for free. The recall is expected to begin sometime in December. Subaru owners can contact the company at 800-782-2783.

2010 Subaru Impreza WRX STI Special Edition

A stripped-down model for those who don't want the bells and whistles.

Tags: subaru, impreza, wrx sti, import

2010 Subaru Impreza WRX STI Special Edition
The ultra-performance-oriented 2010 Subaru Impreza WRX STI Special Edition will be priced at $33,690, including a $695 destination charge, when it arrives in dealerships in the spring. The special model debuted at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Subaru noted that the new model is "priced $2,000 lower than the base price of the 2010 WRX STI." Compared with the standard 2010 WRX STI, the WRX STI Special Edition gets halogen rather than HID headlights; a single-disc CD player with a four-speaker audio system instead of the six-CD player with 10-speaker system; manual air conditioning instead of automatic climate control and side mirrors without integrated signals.

The suspension for the special version is adopted from the Japanese domestic market WRX STI spec C model, which adds a 1mm-thicker rear stabilizer bar, stiffer rear subframe bushings and upgraded springs.

The WRX STI Special Edition is outfitted with the 305-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder turbo boxer engine and a six-speed manual transmission.

The first run of the vehicle — limited to 125 units — will get Aspen White paint and custom spec C wheels. After that initial run, the Special Edition will join the lineup as a regular production model later in 2010 and will be available in standard colors.

Subaru Impreza WRX STI spec C is lighter

And more powerful. Verahhh nice.

Subaru Impreza WRX STI spec C is lighter
Subaru’s personal tuning shop has pumped out another hardcore version of the Impreza WRX STI. Known as the spec C, this modified Impreza WRX STI is lighter and more powerful than other variants of the road-going rally-car that will only be sold in Japan.

With a remapped ECU, the 2.0L boxer flat-four now makes 304-hp with a maximum torque of 311 lb-ft - that is a bit more powerful than the Japanese model but a little close to the U.S. spec STI which makes 305-hp and 290 lb-ft from a 2.5L turbo four.

STI also added an aluminum hood, laminar side windows and a lighter battery to cut excess weight. Subaru has also stiffened the suspension and added a Torsen mechanical limited-slip unit and Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tires.

Subaru will make only 900 units of the Impreza WRX STI spec C.

Subaru Impreza WRX STI Hatch Concept Study
Needless to say, it doesn't take much effort to come up with a better design than Subaru's original Impreza hatch, but that wouldn't be fair to the creator of this independent concept study. This realistic computer generated proposal for a more distinct and sporty-looking Impreza WRX STI with a wedgy-shaped three-door hatchback body is the work of an artist that goes by the alias 'Grid'.

395HP Litchfield Subaru Impreza STI Type-20

Now that would be fun!

Tags: litchfield, subaru, impreza, sti, import

395HP Litchfield Subaru Impreza STI Type-20
Litchfield has taken the wraps off its new Subaru Impreza STI Type-20 and has announced that customers interested in getting the most out of the 2.0L engine can order theirs today. It’s basically the meanest and fastest Subaru Impreza STI you will ever meet.

This isn’t the first time Litchfield has gotten their hands on a Subaru Impreza STI. The predecessor of the Type-20, the Type-25 (check out the Fifth Gear video after the jump), was nothing short of impressive with a 0 to 60 mph time of 3.8 seconds. The new Subaru Impreza STI Type-20 is the brainchild of company owner Ian Litchfield who wanted to extract every bit of power from the 2.0L turbocharged engine. The Type-20 makes a total of 395-hp with a maximum torque of 375 lb-ft. That allows for a 0 to 60 mph time of 3.9 seconds with a top speed of 165 mph. Litchfield has added 365mm Alcon 6-Pot brakes to insure you have all the stopping power you’ll need.

Litchfield says that the Subaru Impreza STI Type-20 comes with a 3-year comprehensive warranty. Pricing starts at £36,995 ($55,313 USD).

Subaru Impreza WRX STi 20th Anniversary Edition

What you get is a chassis upgrade with new shocks and coil springs and sharper steering response. Other key parts include a flexible front strut tower bar, supporting lower-arm bar and a rear suspension pillow-ball bushing.

Only 300 units of the Impreza WRX STi 20th Anniversary Edition will be made which will ride on 18-inch STi alloy wheels. You’ll also get a matte-black roof and a thin front lip spoiler.

2009 Subaru Impreza WRX and 2.5 GT Details

Official information on these two Subarus!

2009 Subaru Impreza WRX and 2.5 GT Details
Understandably, those who bought a 2008 Impreza WRX 224HP aren’t going to be feeling happy with the Japanese automaker this morning as Subaru confirmed earlier reports by revealing that the 2009 Impreza WRX gets a significant power boost, a retuned suspension and to top it all, a series of STI design tweaks. Since the 2009 WRX will be offered exclusively with a 5-speed manual, Subaru renamed 2008 WRX 224HP with the 4-speed auto transmission to the 2009 Impreza GT, maintaining the same 2.5-liter turbocharged boxer. Full details in the jump!

Back to the 2009 Impreza WRX, thanks to the larger turbocharger, the new larger-diameter exhaust and low-density catalyst for reduced backpressure, the 2.5-liter engine now produces 265HP at 6,000 rpm (from 224HP) and 244 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 4,000 rpm (from 226 lb.-ft. in the 2008 version). The suspension on the 2009 Impreza WRX has also been revised with new front upper strut mounts from the STI, stiffer springs, larger stabilizer bars and re-tuned suspension dampers. -Continued
The ’09 wears 17-inch alloys in 225/45R17 summer performance tires, compared to 205/50R17 all-season tires used on the 2008 WRX. Because of the wider tires used, Subaru added a new damper valve to the steering gearbox to ensure a more high quality steering feeling.

Both the 2009 WRX Sedan and 5-Door models can be distinguished by the new STI-type grille and the now standard Aero Package. The sedan has a low-profile rear trunk spoiler, while the 5-Door adopts the WRX STI rear spoiler and a rear diffuser. Inside, for 2009 the WRX gains a new carbon black checkered upholstery accented by red stitching while the WRX Premium Package gets a power moonroof.

Subaru unveils three versions of the Impreza WRX

New looks from Subaru.

Subaru unveils three versions of the Impreza WRX
If the 305-hp that comes with the 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX isn’t enough for you, or if it’s too much for you, Subaru has released three new versions of the Impreza at the British International Motor Show, one of which is just a concept. All have received Prodrive engine upgrades plus some comfort and styling tweaks.

The first is the entry level Impreza WRX-S which is powered by a re-programmed 2.5L boxer engine with a modified ECU and exhaust system which helps produce 227-hp with a peak torque of 287.6. 0-60 comes in at 5.5 seconds while the price comes in at $44,780. The Impreza WRX STI 330S produces 325-hp with a peak torque of 346.6 lb-ft. 0-60 drops from 4.8 seconds to 4.4 seconds. Pricing comes in at $59,731.

The last variant is just a concept but Subaru says it could enter production within six months if there is enough positive response from the public. The Subaru WRX STI 380S produces 375-hp with a complete engine rebuild by Prodrive. The model also gets an upgraded suspension and exhaust system along with an enhanced body kit.

Memo reveals 2009 Subaru Impreza gets 265HP

To compete with the Lancer, you better believe Subaru is going to up the power.

Memo reveals 2009 Subaru Impreza gets 265HP
You can’t keep a secret these days; a member of the NASIOC forum has posted what seems to be a leaked memo from Subaru of America towards the company’s dealers revealing scorching details on the 2009 Subaru Impreza. The most important news is that the 2009 Impreza WRX gets a significant boost with the revised 2.5-liter turbocharged boxer engine delivering an estimated 265 Hp. That’s an additional 41 ponies over the 2008 Impreza WRX’s 224 Hp engine. More after the jump!

Furthermore, the paper says that the 2009 WRX will only be available with a manual transmission and that changes include an upgraded suspension, an STI-type front grille, a standard aero package, new gray color on the alloys and a new interior treatment with red stitching on the steering wheels and seats.

And while those who bought a 2008 Impreza WRX with a manual gearbox will probably be feeling something like a chick with last year’s hairdo, owners of the automatic version should feel better knowing that Subaru will replace the 2008 Impreza WRX Auto with the Impreza GT that retains the same 224 Hp 2.5-liter turbo boxer.

Other changes in the refreshed 2009 Impreza include the addition of the moonroof in the premium package and a few updates in the interior trim.

Subaru to launch Impreza coupe in 2010

For the people who don't love wagons.

Tags: subaru, impreza, sti, european, import

Subaru to launch Impreza coupe in 2010
Subaru hasn’t sold a two door Impreza since the late 1990s but according to latest reports the AWD coupe is set for a comeback with a due date in 2010. The Impreza coupe was sold in most countries as a limited edition version of the potent STI model but it was eventually phased with the introduction of the MY01 Impreza earlier this decade.

Like its predecessor, the new model is tipped to be a high-performance premium coupe designed to tackle the likes of the BMW 3-series coupe and Nissan 350Z. According to AutoExpress, the new Impreza coupe is being jointly-developed with Toyota but it’s not basis of the new RWD sports car that will be sold by both carmakers. The coupe will however spawn a new version of the Toyota Celica and will be styled similar to the current Impreza sedan.

Power will come from a choice of two engines, a naturally aspirated 2.0L boxer engine or a more powerful 2.5L turbo unit. Power will range from about 180hp all the way up to 300hp for the flagship STI.

Base models will feature a RWD set-up but top-end versions will stick with Subaru’s symmetrical AWD system. The new coupe is set to go on sale in Japan and the U.S. in 2010 and eventually reach Europe by 2011.
