Porsche Seven-Speed Manual Transmission
Although Porsche has released photographs showing the interior of an automatic-transmission-equipped 2012 911, we're still waiting on a clear look at the shift-yourself variety. Chas Hallet from WhatCar.com managed to get up close and personal with the newest 911, and he was kind enough to snap a picture of the shift pattern.

$31million scam on Best Buy gets caught

Luxurious lifestyle crumbles
In two weeks the U.S. Treasury will auction 11 supercars valued at nearly $3 million, including a Ferrari Enzo. If you ever bought a piece of electronics at Best Buy that didn't work, here's where your cash may have gone.

Last December, Russell Cole of Deerfield, Minn., was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison on fraud and tax evasion charges after bilking Best Buy for $31 million over several years. Cole's company Chip Factory scammed Best Buy via an online supplier auction; Chip Factory would submit low-ball bids to supply certain parts, then hike the price it actually billed Best Buy. Cole bribed a Best Buy employee to keep the scam going, often sold defective parts to the chain and hid much of his and Chip Factory's income from the Internal Revenue Service.

Those ill-gotten millions allowed Cole and his family to build a $2.65 million home in suburban Minneapolis; when zoning rules barred anything larger than a two-car garage, Cole built a separate, ornate garage to house his collection, which included one of almost everything, from a replica Cobra to a Bentley Continental GTC. While a Porsche Cayenne and Mercedes S550 sedan were the daily drivers, the Cole garage also included a Ford GT, a Ferrari F430 and a '05 Lamborghini Murcielago roadster.

Cole's wife Abby Rae, who had founded Chip Factory in her basement before she married, was sentenced to three years probation; Russell Cole contended his wife had left him in charge of the business and had no idea about how big his scams had grown. As Cole's lawyer said: "He took one small step, which led to another and then another. He then made a fortune and somehow rationalized that he'd actually earned it himself."

The auction by Manheim is set for April 19 in Milwaukee, where the Enzo will likely draw the top bid.

Corolla-based F430 replica
Let's say you wanted to create a replica Ferrari. Your first move would undoubtedly be to acquire a Pontiac Fiero, but what if you lived in an area where Fieros are actually mythical beasts? Executive Modcar Trendz of India turned to one of the best-selling cars on the planet; the Toyota Corolla to create the one-off F430 you see here.

That's right folks, underneath this Rosso Fakeo paint job lies the beating heart of a Japanese compact car. The entire interior has been reworked so it more closely resembles the Ferrari F430 on which it's based.

What does it cost to go from gas-drinker to faux-corner-devourer? Around 10 Lakh, which translates to approximately $22,242 USD based on current conversion rates. Head over to IndianAutosBlog for a closer look at this Ferroyta Cor30.

Poor service leads Lamborghini to Death
One Lamborghini owner in China today decided to take a stand against the poor service he had received from the company. He hired people to publicly destroy the sports car when it failed to function after a service by an official Lamborghini service station.

The protest was made to provoke public support and goad the manufacturer to respect his consumer rights. World Consumer Rights Day happens on March 15th in Qingdao city, eastern Shandong province, China.

2012 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4
The new 691-hp (SAE), 6.5-litre V12 engine out back – called "L539" in Lambo-speak – is a massive 40 lbs. lighter than the Murcièlago engine, sits 2.8 inches lower in the chassis, is nine percent more powerful, and produces upwards of 20 percent better fuel efficiency in the hands of the right driver (for a whopping 13.7 mpg average). Dry weight of an Aventador is now just 3,472 lbs. compared to the Murcièlago's 3,671 lbs., a healthy five percent reduction in a class segment where weight loss is a crucial and constant challenge. Weight distribution is a predictable 43 percent front and 57 rear.

60 out of 77 Aston Martin One-77 supercars sold
The One-77 is the rarest of all Aston Martin models, with a grand total of 77 units for the rest of forever (well, assuming they decide against a Volante model). Add in a body that is made with copious amounts of carbon fiber, a 750-horsepower V12 and hand-formed aluminum panels and you're looking at a price tag of $1.87 million. If you're thinking that that's more money than you're likely to make in the next lifetime, we're on the same wavelength, but not everyone is tuned to the same frequency.

Inside Line reports that fully 60 of the 77 One-77s are already spoken for, leaving only 17 copies of the ultra-mega rare English exotic up for grabs.

Video: Stasis' 710-hp Audi R8 Spyder
Matt Farah gets his mitts on tons of great rides, and we're thankful that he puts them on camera for us all to enjoy. This time around, Matt was handed the keys to Stasis' Audi R8 Spyder. The crew at Stasis set to work on the 5.2-liter roadster, adding a supercharger, suspension upgrades, larger wheels and an exhaust that breathes a little easier. The result is a 710-horsepower ragtop rocketship. The car seems to be so much fun to drive that Farah is often reduced to uncontrollable giggles. But seriously, who can blame him?

Lamborghini Sesto Elemento Concept

Revealed ahead of schedule.

Tags: lamborghini, concept, sesto elemento, exotic

Lamborghini Sesto Elemento Concept
The doors still haven't quite opened up at the Paris Motor Show and already the leakage has begun in full force. Yesterday we got a sneak peek at the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento Concept, but the lone photo was small and grainy. Thankfully, the wait for real images is now over mere minutes before the car is officially unveiled at an evening event held by the Volkswagen Group in Paris as we speak. A total of five shots of the carbon-intensive supercar have just hit the interwebs, and they didn't come from Lamborghini.

To put it mildly, we like what we see. As could be seen in the series of teasers officially let loose by the boys from Lamborghini, every single bit of the car has been fashioned from carbon fiber. Suitable, then, that the car has been named after the sixth element of the periodic table – Sesto Elemento literally means sixth element in Italian. Even the tailpipes have been fashioned from a sort of composite called Pyrosic that is able to withstand extremely high temperatures.

Those high exhaust temperatures will be exhaled by a V10 engine that's putting out a stonkin' 570 horsepower. With just 2,200 pounds of weight to move, the run to 60 will take less than 2.5 seconds.

SSC Ultimate Aero II shows its front and back
When Bugatti announced that its new Veyron 16.4 Super Sport officially set a new landspeed world record for production cars hitting a top speed of 267.81 mph, American company Shelby Supercars (SSC) was quick to congratulate the German automaker and said that they are working on a new project that will debut before the end of the summer.

“When the Ultimate Aero broke the record in 2007, we knew it was just a matter of time until it was broken by someone else,” SSC said.

Shortly after that SSC released a teaser for the Ultimate Aero II and today the folks at Top Gear have revealed two images showing the full car. According to sources, SSC is aiming for a top speed of 275 mph from a 6.8L V8 engine making 1,350-hp.

2010 Ferrari 458 Italia Recalled in U.S.

Largest Ferrari recall ever.

Tags: ferrari, 458 italia, recall, exotic

2010 Ferrari 458 Italia Recalled in U.S.
Ferrari is recalling 303 2010 Ferrari 458 Italia cars in the U.S. because glue could leak onto the exhaust system and cause a fire, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The U.S. recall is part of a global recall of the supercar that involves 1,248 458 Italia vehicles — said to be possibly the largest recall in the history of Ferrari, according to the Financial Times.

"The heat created by the engine could cause possible deformation of the rear right-hand and left-hand wheelhouse and heat shield assemblies," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. "The assembly could come excessively close to the exhaust system, causing the bonding adhesive used in the assembly to overheat and produce smoke. Under particularly high ambient operating temperature this could cause the adhesive to ignite, resulting in a vehicle fire and/or rendering the vehicle inoperable and possibly resulting in a crash."

Curiously, the legally required defect information report filed with NHTSA and dated August 31 was not filed by Ferrari, but by the Washington, D.C., law firm of Mayer Brown LLP and signed by Adam C. Sloane, a lawyer described in his biographical information posted online by the firm as an expert in "products liability" with a "strong focus on federal motor vehicle and freight railroad regulation." It is unusual for a law firm — and not the automaker — to file recall notices with NHTSA.

The Mayer Brown documentation filed with the federal government says "Ferrari has now decided to file this report, and has decided to include in its proposed campaign all Ferrari 458 Italia vehicles manufactured up to August 2010."

Two new models to compliment EvaGT

Two new models to compliment EvaGT
At the 2010 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, Morgan came to the exclusive gathering with a concept called EvaGT – a model that is known for its perfect blend between traditional and modern. Charles Morgan, managing director of Morgan Motor Company, said that the company is also working on two new cars that it will put into production within the next three years.

He said that one of the two models will be called the LIFECar 2, while saying that the other will be a “fun weekend vehicle.”

Charles said that the LIFEcar 2 is an electric-diesel hybrid sports car that will have a range of more than 1,000 miles. About the second car, chief designer Matt Humphries said that the company is working on something that will be “more extreme, with real entertainment value.”

As for the EvaGT, Humphries said that the production car will look almost the same as the concept. “We’ve got a reputation for translating show cars into road cars almost unchanged,” said Humphries. “That’s our plan for the Eva GT. It needs a high-level brake light at the rear, but that’s about all.”

We’ve been hearing about the Arash AF-10 supercars since October 2008, and we’re glad to say we’re finally getting closer to seeing it on the road. The company has just dropped some new images and and specs on the AF-10, meaning we’re pretty close to seeing it go into development.

Power for the Arash AF-10 comes from a GM LS7 V8 engine making 550-hp at 6,200 rpm and a maximum torque of 475 lb-ft at 4,800 rpm. While no official performance figures have been confirmed it is reported that the AF-10 can run from 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds with a top speed of more than 220 mph.

Not impressed? Don’t worry, Arash has plans of of offering an AF-10S with a supercharged and intercooled version of the 7.0L V8 that will make 800-hp. Another top-of-the-line version is planned that will produce 1,001-hp.
