The Cadillac CTS-V coupe has been back on ever since GM vice chair Bob Lutz said it was back in July.
Today we learned the production 2011 CTS-V coupe will be in Cadillac's booth at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show, so we'll expect full details and photos to be released in early January. And we'll expect the car to follow the CTS-V sedan in every detail, 556-horsepower supercharged V8 and all.

Earlier in July, Bob Lutz confirmed that the Cadillac CTS-V Coupe is on the way with a possibility of a CTS-V Sport Wagon. It was later confirmed by an ‘inside source’ that CTS-V lineup will be extended to the Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon. Today, CARandDRIVER is reporting that Bob Lutz has confirmed a production CTS-V Sport Wagon, bringing more validity to the report.
An excerpt from CARandDRIVER:
“You know what’s really going to get you guys [on board with wagons] is the CTS-V wagon.”
“Oh, has the wagon been confirmed?” we asked, already aware that the hot-rod CTS would also be available as a coupe. “Yes,” he replied, “You’ll be able to get the CTS-V any way you want.”

General Motors Co. has decided to produce the Cadillac Converj, an extended-range electric car using the same technology as the Chevrolet Volt, The Detroit News has learned.
Cadillac included the Converj, a concept car that wowed industry critics and the public at the 2009 North American International Auto Show, in a presentation made to the automaker's board of directors Nov. 2, according to sources familiar with the production plan.
A production date has not been set, and it likely will be a few years before consumers can buy a Converj. A Cadillac spokesman declined comment.
Before GM emerged from bankruptcy July 10 with about $50 billion in federal aid, company executives said there were no plans to build the angular Converj.
At the auto show, Vice Chairman Bob Lutz said if the Converj was approved, the production model would resemble the concept, likening it to the Chevrolet Camaro's evolution from concept to production.

May the best lap win!

The Bob Lutz/Cadillac CTS-V smackdown/stunt planned for this Thursday at the Monticello Motor Club in upstate New York, will follow a simple five-lap format.
Each competitor, chosen by General Motors to take on Bob Lutz and the Cadillac CTS-V, will receive five consecutive laps of the course. So subtracting an out-lap and a cool-down lap, each competitor, of which there will be about 10 total, will receive three flying laps. The quickest single lap at the end of the day will decide the winner. There will apparently be no second-chance round.
The schedule of events looks like this (all times are Eastern):
8:30 am-11:30 am -- Track opens for practice
11:30 am-11:45 am -- Introductions, driver meeting, etc.
11:45 am-1:00 pm -- lunch
1:00 pm-2:30 pm -- timed laps

In just four days, Bob Lutz will race a Cadillac CTS-V against other qualifying high-performance sedans. It all started when Lutz challenged the media on a conference call to find a “stock production sedan on the planet that could outperform the CTS-V on the track.”
After 120 applications, GM has picked five races to participate in the Cadillac V-Series Challenge at the Monticello Motor Club in upstate New York.
The 5 winners consist of three journalists including Jalopnik’s Wes Siler who will be driving a Jaguar XFR; Jack Baruth of The Truth About Cars (no word on what he’s driving); Lawrence Ulrich a freelance auto writer at The New York Times (no idea what he’s driving either).
Private winners include Michael M of Whitecoff, NJ who will be bringing is BMW M5 and Tom of Philadelphia, PA who will be racing his Audi RS4. Also joining the event will be Chris of Ann Arbor, Michigan who will be bringing his Cadillac CTS-V to learn more about the capabilities of the sedan.
We’ll have more details as Oct. 29 gets closer.

On its way to doing the 1/4-mile in 11.07 seconds at 128 mph, a Hennessey-tuned 700-horsepower Cadillac CTS-V hit .99 longitudinal G as it left the start line. By the end of the run the phone inside the car was ringing, and it was your friendly neighborhood OnStar representative wondering "What the hell do you think you're doing?" Ok, not quite... but they did have some questions. Follow the jump to watch the video.

He's not scared and even if he was, he has no reason to be seeing as how much the CTS-V kicks ass.
Now that is ballsy!

Bob thinks that GM has a lineup of vehicles that can stack up with the best the rest of the automotive manufacturing world has to offer. One of the examples he cited was the Cadillac CTS-V, and went so far as to challenge the journalists to find a stock production sedan on the planet that could outperform the CTS-V on the track. The guys at Jalopnik.com were the first ones to respond to the challenge, quickly and most enthusiastically, but they suspect there will be more. GM will be having a full racetrack challenge October 29 at the Monticello Motor Club in Monticello, N.Y., not far from the New York City area.

At the 2009 Detroit Auto Show, General Motors surprised the world by unveiling a plug-in hybrid Cadillac known as the Converj. At that time General Motors made it clear that it had no plans to put the Converj into production. However, since Maximum Bob Lutz made his return to General Motors after taking a short retirement, talk of the Converj finding its way back into GM’s product line has been gaining some flame.
Just last month Bob Lutz admitted that the Converj is one possible application of the Voltec system found in the 2011 Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric-vehicle. According to a new report by BusinesWeek, with most of the Converj’s opponents pushed out in the wake of GM’s bankruptcy reorganization, a new team of executives are trying to find a way to get the car engineered and funded.
The idea of putting the Converj into production died last spring, right before former GM North America President Troy Clarke and Mark McNabb, who ran Cadillac, left the company in May. Apparently, both opposed the idea of a production Converj.
BusinessWeek made it clear that the Converj has not been approved for funding yet, but Lutz and other executives think the Converj, which could get a different name for the production model, would do wonders to Cadillac’s image as a technology leader in the luxury market
The Converj Concept is powered by GM’s next-generation Voltec system made up of 16kWh, a T-shaped lithium-ion battery, an electric-drive unit and a flex-fuel 4-cylinder engine. That helps produce a total of 161-hp with a maximum torque of 273 lb-ft.
How many miles per gallon will it get? Something close to the Volt’s outstanding 230 mpgs.

General Motors Co. doesn't appear to be learning from its mistakes: The trimmed-down, "new" GM still looks a lot like the old one, with too many vehicle brands and too many overlapping U.S. models.
Several models under each of GM's brands are butting heads with similar models at sibling brands, including Chevy's new Traverse crossover SUV (middle).
Several models under each of GM's brands are butting heads with similar models at sibling brands, including Chevy's new Traverse crossover SUV (middle).
Between now and 2011, GM will launch an astounding 25 models, according to CEO Fritz Henderson: 10 for Chevrolet, five for Cadillac and 10 for Buick-GMC. What's more, the automaker sees itself as making good on its promise to become leaner and meaner by reducing the total number of models it sells by the end of 2010 from 48 to 34 -- still a stunning figure, considering the lumbering giant's inability to carve out a real identity for each with product and create marketing that truly sets them apart.
"The problem isn't that 34 is too many models; it's the number of distinctive models," said Maryann Keller, an auto consultant who has authored two books on the company. "It just feels like the same old GM." She noted that several models under each of GM's brands are butting heads with similar models at sibling brands. For example, the new Chevrolet Traverse is up against its sibling at Buick, the Enclave, and GMC's Acadia. "The problem is they overlap and compete for the same buyer."
GM did shed four of its eight brands, leaving behind Hummer, Pontiac, Saab and Saturn, but even so, the automaker does not have enough time or money to transform the remaining quartet into distinctive brands. And Susan Jacobs, president of Jacobs & Associates, said even four is too many. She, along with two other experts queried by Ad Age, maintains that the automaker should operate with just two: Chevrolet as its mass-market marque and Cadillac its luxury marque.

Ever wonder what happened to that Cadillac CTS Coupe that was going to come out? The original release of the model was planned for this summer, however, GM’s bankruptcy resulted in many product scheduling changes. According to a GM spokesman, the Cadillac CTS Coupe is now going to be released in May 2010 as a 2011 model year.
The CTS Coupe will share engine choices with the current Cadillac CTS sedan.
The 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe will be joined quickly by the Cadillac CTS-V Coupe. Power for the CTS-V Coupe will come from the same 6.2L Supercharged V8 LSA as the CTS-V sedan. Output will be rated at 556-hp with a maximum torque of 551 lb-ft.
Yesterday, General Motors Company’s Chairman Edward Whitacre said that GM will be introducing certain vehicles sooner than originally planned to fight for its market share.

During a live chat earlier yesterday afternoon, Lutz confirmed that the Cadillac CTS-V Coupe is indeed on the way with a possibility of a CTS-V Sport Wagon.
When asked where Cadillac plans to fit its V package in its CTS lineup, Lutz said: “As of now, the V package is planned only for the sedan and coupe. However, should sufficient demand materialize, there is no reason why we couldn’t do a V-Series wagon, and I would be standing in line for one, just ahead of you.”
