Official Corvette C6.R GT2 images
This year's Corvette racer, the C6.R headed to the GT class in ALMS and at Le Mans, has had a slow reveal. First its heart was unleashed, the production-derived 5.5-liter V8, then its livery stopped to pose. Now the car has been caught doing what it hopes to do best this year, heating up the tarmac at Sebring International Raceway.

There will be two teams competing: Johnny O'Connell, Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia in the No. 3 Compuware Corvette 3; Oliver Gavin, Olivier Beretta, and Emmanuel Collard in the No. 4. Their first race will be on March 20, the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, and the competition will be a gunslinger's hall of fame: Porsche, BMW, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Spyker, Jaguar.

New Corvette-based 9 Competizione unveiled

New Corvette-based 9 Competizione unveiled
The current C6 Corvette platform is proving to be a popular basis for independent coachbuilders, with several firms releasing their own take on the classic sports car over the past 12 months. Corvette-based cars like the Anteros XTM, Innotech C6 and the more recent Bertone Mantide all spring to mind, and now we have the new 9 Competizione from SV Motor Company to add to that list.

Under the new sheet metal/carbon-fiber, which shares a striking resemblance to Alfa Romeo’s stunning 8C Competizione, SV has retained the basic C6 Corvette platform but has specifically tailored some of the specifications for use in its new car.

Thanks to almost full carbon-fiber bodywork, SV engineers have managed to shed 132 pounds from the Corvette’s kerb weight and give the car a perfect 50/50 front to rear weight distribution. While the powertrain has been left untouched (customers will be able to choose which Corvette model to use), SV engineers have tweaked the brakes and suspension and added Pirelli PZero Rosso ultra performance tires. Lateral acceleration is estimated to be 1.03g and braking from 60-0mph is a claimed 107 feet.

Peak power can be boosted, however, if customers select SV’s revised intake and a custom-tuned exhaust option. This includes the ANSA Automotive exhaust system developed by SV for use on the Ferrari Daytona and 599, which on the base LS3-powered Corvette boosts output from 436hp to 450hp and sees the 9 Competizione’s 0-60mph time drop to just 4.0 seconds.

The SV 9 Competizione will be limited to 1,000 units at a cost of $99,995 which includes a new, well-equipped donor C6 Corvette purchased through their dealer network. The first showing of the SV 9 Competizione is this Saturday evening in San Francisco. The car will also be on display August 14 at the Concorso Italiano in Pebble Beach.

Corvette-based SV 9 Competizione

A different take on the C6.

Tags: corvette, c6, sv 9, competizione, domestic, exotic

Corvette-based SV 9 Competizione
Reclothing Corvettes with Italian coachwork is a time-honored tradition; one that sadly lapsed for years in between the age of classics and the modern era. But in an industry where old designs and old badges are resurrected with increasing regularity, this is one practice we're glad to see come back. Following such recent examples as Castagna Aznom comes the SV 9 Competizione, a re-skinned C6 Corvette with a touch of Italian flair.

Imagine a cross between an Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione – from which this creation clearly draws its inspiration (as well as its name) – and a contemporary Corvette and you're well on your way towards summing up the SV 9 Competizione's design. And while we have some reservations over the front-end styling with its protruding snout, overall, the design strikes an intriguing balance between American muscle and Italian style. And when you consider the price of many contemporary coachbuilt customs, the $99,995 sticker price – including the donor Vette – doesn't seem all that outlandish.

Along with the carbon fiber bodywork, SV has tweaked the interior, fitted a new intake and exhaust for a 14-horsepower boost to 450 and fitted a new set of wheels with Pirelli Pzero Rosso tires, giving the SV 9 Competizione a claimed 0-60 time of four seconds flat, a 12-second quarter-mile sprint, a braking distance from 60 of 107 feet and 1.03g of lateral grip. Not too shabby by any standard. And with configurations based on 25 exterior colors, five interior trims and four wheel choices, SV figures there's no reason any two of the 1,000 units to which production is limited will ever need to turn out the same.

Corvette C6R GT2 cars ready for racing!

Mid-Ohio ALMS race will be eyed by the Corvette Racing team.

Corvette C6R GT2 cars ready for racing!
Following the 2008 American Le Mans Series, Chevrolet announced that its Corvette Racing team would abandon the largely uncontested ranks of GT1 and take on the challenge of GT2. As General Motors careened toward bankruptcy court this spring, the team competed in its final GT1 races at Sebring, Long Beach and Le Mans – but the big question was whether the GT2 program would be still-born.

Well, Corvette fans can now breath a sigh of relief – the news has just come from the American Le Mans Series that GM has filed official entry forms to compete in the GT2 class at Mid-Ohio in August. The existing driver pairings of Johnny O'Connell/Jan Magnussen and Olivier Beretta/Oliver Gavin will pilot the new Vettes, which will feature bodywork inspired by the ZR1 – including double side vents. We're certainly looking forward to seeing Chevrolets take on Ferrari, Porsche and Aston next month as they take to the roadcourse the weekend of Aug. 6-8.

C6.R Lives

GT1 / GT2 in '09 .... FIA-GT in '10

Tags: racing, corvette, c6r, domestic, badass

C6.R Lives Corvette Racing will aim for a sixth victory in the GT1 class in the 2009 24 Hours of Le Mans before entering the GT2 category in the second half of the American Le Mans Series 2009 season. Corvette Racing will launch a full-season assault in the restructured GT division in 2010.

Corvette Racing will run a limited schedule in the GT1 class in the first half of the 2009 ALMS season as it prepares for its 10th participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June. The team will race in the GT1 class in the season-opening Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring and the popular Grand Prix of Long Beach. Following its return from the classic 24-hour endurance race in France, Corvette Racing will compete in the GT2 category in selected ALMS events in 2009 in preparation for a full-season program under new international GT class regulations in 2010.

"Corvette Racing will be well positioned for the future of production-based sports car racing worldwide with the plans we are announcing today," said Steve Wesoloski, GM Racing Road Racing Group manager. "The international regulations are converging around a single, global GT class, and we intend to continue Corvette's motorsports heritage by racing against manufacturers and marques that Corvette competes with in the marketplace.

"The GT1 class has been a platform for GM Racing and our partners to develop the most technically sophisticated race cars in our history," Wesoloski said. "We intend to apply the tremendous success we have had in the GT1 category to make the next-generation Corvette C6.R a strong contender in the new GT class."

Manufacturers currently represented in the ALMS GT2 class or confirmed for future participation include Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martin, BMW, Ford, Dodge, and Panoz. Other manufacturers produce high-performance cars that could compete in the new GT category.

"In accordance with the regulations, the new version of the Corvette C6.R race car will be available to independent teams," Wesoloski said. "Corvette and Chevrolet are global brands, and we look forward to seeing production-based Corvette race cars competing in series around the world under the leadership of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO) and the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA)."

The new GT Corvette C6.R race car will be based on the production Corvette's chassis and body design. A 6.0-liter version of the LS7.R small-block V-8 will power the Corvette GT2 entry in the transitional 2009 season. A new naturally aspirated 5.5-liter version of the production GM small-block V-8 will be developed to meet the new GT regulations that will take effect in 2010. The chassis and powertrain specifications of the new Corvette GT entry will be submitted to the ACO and FIA for homologation approval.

"Competing in GT2 will be a true test of our team's determination, talent and technology," said Doug Fehan, Corvette Racing program manager. "The level of competition in the category is already fierce, and that promises to become more intense with more manufacturers and top-tier teams. We've explored alternative paths, and we believe that competing in GT is the right road for Corvette Racing to take in the future.

"We will continue our commitment to cellulosic E85R ethanol racing fuel in the current GT1 Corvette C6.R and the next-generation Corvette C6.R that will compete in the new GT class " Fehan said. "Corvette Racing's green racing initiative is proof of our commitment to using alternative fuels at the highest levels of motorsports."

Corvette Racing is America's premier production sports car team, with 72 wins in 100 races. The most successful team in ALMS history, Corvette Racing has won seven consecutive ALMS GT1 manufacturers and team championships and six straight drivers championships. Corvette Racing has five GT1 victories since 2001 in the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans.

"The 2009 season will mark Corvette Racing's 10th anniversary in international endurance racing, and it will also mark the beginning of a new chapter in Corvette's racing history," said Mark Kent, director of GM Racing. "Corvette Racing has consistently delivered tangible engineering and marketing benefits to GM and Chevrolet. Our announcement today of Corvette Racing's future plans affirms the continuing value of production-based racing as a development tool for advanced technology in powertrain, aerodynamics, lightweight materials, safety, and computer modeling.

"It's not just high-performance machines like the Corvette Z06 and ZR1 that bear witness to the positive impact of racing," Kent said. "The lessons learned at Corvette Racing can benefit mainstream production vehicles as GM continues to develop lightweight, aerodynamic, and fuel-efficient cars and trucks."

Brabus B63 S Mercedes with 530HP
If you’re the kind of person who finds that the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG could do with a bit more oomph, then Brabus’ new tuning package might just do the trick for you. The German tuning firm’s new B63 S performance kit consists of free-flow high-performance metal catalysts, sport air filters and newly programmed ECU with custom mapping for ignition and injection. Shark Tooth C6 Grill is the funny, makes me lol
I think the only person that would find this awesome would be my nephew. He's five years old. But really, come on. This crap does not belong on a Corvette. It's bad enough that there are some tacky hoods and tail-lights out there. Hey, at least it' is made of stainless steel. Wouldn't want those chompers rusting.

Specter Werkes/Sports unveils Corvette C6 GTR

Specter Werkes/Sports unveils Corvette C6 GTR
Specter Werkes finally got their C6 GTR development greenlighted and now you can see it in all of its glory. Sporting a widened body, a stiffer suspension, and more horsepower for you to enjoy. The full press release after the jump!

Specter Werkes/Sports unveiled the first C6 Corvette GTR at Cauley Ferrari, in West Bloomfield, Mich. Wearing signature wide bodywork, suspension upgrades and equipped with a Matrix II LS3 V-8 rated at 535 emissions-legal horsepower, it was built for Rollie Purifoy, of Purifoy Chevrolet, in Fort Lupton, Colo.

The all-new, C6-based Corvette GTR retains the intrinsic character of the Corvette, augmenting it with appearance, performance and luxury enhancements. It is a distinctive and exclusive sports car with exceptional capability, whether on the street or track.

The GTR package is available on all C6 Corvette models, including the base coupe and convertible, the Z06 and ZR1. Orders are being accepted immediately, with product and ordering information available at www.spectergtr.com or 248-583-9559.

"We are very proud to launch the C6 Corvette GTR with Rollie Purifoy, from Purifoy Chevrolet, and Jeff Cauley, from Cauley Chevrolet and Cauley Ferrari," said Jeff Nowicki, Specter Werkes/Sports founder. "The new GTR offers enthusiasts everything they're looking for in a sports car – performance, great looks and guaranteed exclusivity."

The GTR's expressive, widened bodywork is complemented with the use of exposed carbon fiber details. Standard and optional GTR features include:
• Unique GTR bodywork, including: front fascia, carbon fiber splitter, extractor hood, front fenders, doors, rocker panels, rear fenders, rear fascia, carbon fiber rear diffuser, carbon fiber mirror caps, Cleartastic paint protection, paint and assembly
• Custom GTR headlamp bezels with exposed carbon fiber appearance
• Unique tail lamps and center high-mounted stop lamp
• Michelin Pilot Sport 2 Zero Press tires; 285/30ZR19 (front) and 335/25ZR20 (rear)
• Forgeline or HRE wheels; 19-inch in the front and 20-inch in the rear
• StopTech ST60 front brakes and ST40 rear brakes
• Carbon fiber fuel rail covers and carbon fiber, low-restriction air box
• Hotchkis stablilizer bar kit
• GTR-embroidered seats and serial-numbered dash plaque
• CORSA/Specter stainless steel performance exhaust system
• GTR badges

The Corvette GTR package carries a base price of $34,995, with a variety of high-performance powertrain options available for additional cost. Custom paint treatment is also available. Each vehicle is hand-built, numbered and fully documented for the customer.

Distinctive design

Styling that accents the Corvette's design is a hallmark of Specter Werkes/Sports and the C6 GTR takes that philosophy to the next level, with a completely redesigned body. Like the original C5 GTR, the C6 version is based on widened bodywork that supports the larger wheel/tire combination. It also gives the car a more aggressive stance – as do the racing-inspired front and rear fascias.

"The GTR's design sharpens and embellishes many of the Corvette's design cues, but doesn't eliminate them," said Nowicki. "It is a design that respects and celebrates the Corvette's design heritage, but builds on it to suit the interest of our customers – enthusiasts who are looking for a unique and exclusive product."

At 77 inches, the GTR's bodywork is 4.5 inches wider at the rear fenders (2.25 inches per side) than a regular-production C6 Corvette and 1 inch wider than the Corvette Z06. The physical difference may seem small, but the overall effect, along with a slightly longer overall body length, creates a unique proportion to the GTR that is aggressive and suggests speed even when stationary.

Specter Werkes/Sports replaces the front and rear fenders; front and rear fascias; doors, rocker panels and hood – everything except the roof panel and rear hatch – with special, hand-formed GTR panels. Each car is completely repainted and re-assembled with the new bodywork at Specter Werke's Troy, Mich. facility.

GTR standard equipment also includes a number of exposed carbon fiber details, including:
• Front splitter
• Rear diffuser
• Outside mirror caps
• Headlamp surrounds

A bold, LED-lit rear center-mounted stop lamp is integrated in the rear fascia. It was originally designed for the Cadillac CTS, and gives the GTR an unmistakable rear appearance.

GTR #1 details

C6 Corvette GTR #1 is powered by Specter's emissions-legal Matrix II engine package for the LS3 engine. It is a "stroker" engine package that boosts displacement from 376 cubic inches (6.2L) to 416 cubic inches (6.8L). That is achieved with a Callies 4340-forged crankshaft that delivers a 4.00-inch stroke. Forged rods from Manley and forged pistons from Mahle round out the rotating assembly.

The camshaft is a special grind from Comp Cams and the LS3 heads' combustion chambers were enlarged from 71cc to 72cc in order to maintain an 11:1 compression ratio. With stainless steel long tube headers and a low-restriction air intake, the engine is rated at 535 horsepower and 530 lb-ft of torque. The engine also features carbon fiber fuel rail covers and a yellow-painted intake manifold.

The Matrix II LS3 channels power to the pavement via HRE wheels, measuring 19 x 11 inches in the front and 20 x 12 inches in the rear. They wrapped with Michelin Pilot Sport 2 Zero Press tires (285/30ZR19, front, and 335/25ZR20, rear). Behind the wheels are StopTech brakes, featuring ST60 six-piston calipers and 15-inch slotted rotors in the front and ST40 four-piston calipers and 14-inch slotted rotors in the rear. The calipers' yellow color contrasts with the HRE wheels' black center sections. The GTR also features Hotchkis adjustable stabilizer bars.

On the outside, C6 GTR #1 is painted a gorgeous BASF liquid silver color, the richness of which appears wet to the touch. It is a premium color choice and represents the nearly unlimited paint options available to customers. Inside, GTR-standard embroidered seats and Spinneybeck leather trim details contrast elegantly with the Corvette's black interior. A Specter Werkes/Sports production plaque is mounted on the center console.

GTR legacy

The Specter Werkes/Sports GTR was first launched a decade ago and saw the creation of nearly 30 specialized cars that were delivered across the country – including the two most notable GTRs, which were created for Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr., in 2001.

Specter Werkes/Sports is an automotive prototype and fabrication facility based in Troy, Mich. It specializes in race-proven engine performance enhancements and creating specialty accessories for C5 and C6 Corvettes, the Cadillac CTS and more. The company's flagship project is the Corvette GTR.

Since its founding in 1990, Specter Werkes/Sports has been recognized internationally for unparalleled achievements of excellence, helping automotive industry leaders design, model, and prototype innovative, top-of-the-line products at competitive pricing.

Jay Leno's Corvette C6RS: 600 HP, E85-Capable

Jay Leno's Corvette C6RS: 600 HP, E85-Capable
At this week’s SEMA Auto Show GM will be emphasizing its ‘green’ performance credentials by unveiling a slew of modified cars capable of using E85 ethanol plus several ultra-efficient sports cars. In amongst the field of concept and production vehicles will be Jay Leno’s modified C6RS Corvette, an 8.2L beast with over 600hp on tap.

To live up to the green image, Leno and motorsport company Pratt & Miller modified the Corvette Z06 to run on E85 ethanol. More than merely a conversion of the stock LS7 engine to E85 capability, Leno’s alternative-fuel supercar is powered by a custom, 8.2L all-aluminum small-block V8 that pumps out approximately 600hp and 792Nm (585lb-ft) of torque.

The engine is built around a custom aluminum cylinder block that was CNC-milled from a single block of billet aluminum. Its cylinder heads, intake system and dry-sump oiling system are stock LS7 components but the bore and stroke dimensions are larger than those of the stock 7.0L motor. Also new are the forged crankshaft, connecting rods and pistons.

Another E85-fueled vehicle GM has prepped for SEMA is the FlexFuel Chevy Hot Rod, a recreation of the hot rods that competed at early drag strips and land-speed venues of the late 1940s and 1950s. The new car is built by GM Performance Division and takes its inspiration from a 1934 Chevy but it’s powered by a modern a 500hp turbocharged Ecotec engine running on E85, petrol, or any combination of the two.

Bow Chicka Wow Wow! Corvette C6 Suede Interior
"You know how we do. This is for the ladies. Straight-up suede in the vette to make the ladies wet. Awwwwwwwwwww yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh."

On a serious note, this probably costed a pretty penny to do a full-suede interior. It looks pretty damn professional, too. However, I believe this falls into the category of "money can't buy taste". And wow does it make the GM interior look cheaper than it already is!
