Two armored Secret Service vehicles, a Chevrolet Suburban and a limousine that belong to Vice President Biden's fleet, hit and killed a pedestrian just over the D.C. border in Maryland. The accident happened in the early hours of Wednesday morning as the vehicles were being returned from Andrews Air Force Base to a secure storage location. No dignitaries were on board.
The man was crossing at an intersection on Maryland's Suitland Parkway under rainy conditions at 2:27 a.m., the Washington Post reported.
The limousine and Suburban had been used on the vice president's visit to Fort Lewis in Washington State, where he attended and spoke at a memorial service for seven soldiers based there who were killed in Afghanistan. Following the service, as is customary, the vehicles were flown back to Andrews. The vehicles are both armored and therefore must be driven by specially trained employees who have taken a "protective operator's driving course," the Post reported. The paper quoted Secret Service spokesman as saying the armor protection makes them "tricker to handle than ordinary vehicles."
U.S. Park Police are currently investigating the accident.

This was a customer car but the customer was not driving or in the car at the time. The driver stopped at a red light behind a truck and was hit from behind by a VW Touareg driving at 80km/hour at the time of impact. The Roadster driver walked away with minor bruises.

It looks like accidents involving Nissan's new GT-R are piling up lately. The most recent incident took place in Vancouver, Canada, when a Nissan GT-R driver hit the launch control button a bit too early and flew right over the entrance of the VanCity Credit Union landing into the ATM machines. Of course we're just kidding about the launch control part but the rest really happened as you can see for yourselves in the photo gallery below.
According to News1130's website that reported the mishap, the Nissan GT-R's driver suffered some light injuries but luckily no one was around when the car crashed into the bank.

A man narrowly escaped a catastrophic crash after his Ferrari F430 blew out a tire at 120 mph.
The driver had accelerated to 180 mph just seconds before, but a weird noise caught his attention and he immediately started slowing down. When his speed fell to 120 mph, the tire suddenly burst, destroying the rear quarter panel as shards flew in all directions.
Here at Wrecked Exotics, we've seen dozens of crashes resulting from igh speed tire blowouts. We were always surprised by the high frequency of crashes that resulted from this scenario, but now after seeing the amount of damage a high speed tire blowout can cause, it's no wonder.
In this case, if it had been the front tire to blow out, we don't see how the driver could have prevented a crash. Let this be a warning to those who think high speed driving isn't dangerous. Even if you're the only one on the road, a tire blowout could be devastating.

Dan Riley was bantering with customers this morning at Riley’s Bakery - a normal Friday morning happening, except for the fact that part of the business had been pushed in hours earlier by an out-of-control car.
“The police called me at about 11 last night and told me somebody drove through the front of Riley’s,” he said. “I said, ‘you’ve got to be kidding me.’ ”
Fifteen minutes after getting the call, he saw what the Bowling Green Police Department encountered - a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro partially inside his business on U.S. 31-W By-Pass.
Riley said chunks of brick, glass and mortar were strewn about the inside of the store near where the car came to a stop, and a display case containing models of wedding cakes was damaged. He estimated the damage at about $50,000, according to a city police report.
“I guess (the driver) felt like I needed a drive-through window and I didn’t have one ... I’m thankful that the driver wasn’t hurt, though, that’s the important thing,” Riley said. “Heck, I’m 72, I’ve been through it all ... we’ll get it repaired.”
The driver, Jason Ray Parker, 34, 1612 McClintock Court, was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree criminal mischief and driving under the influence, according to a city police arrest report.
The report stated that long skid marks led from Lain Avenue to the site of the crash. The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro crashed through a window on the right side of the building near the front entrance.
Parker allegedly had a blood alcohol content of 0.219; the legal limit for drivers is 0.08. After being arrested, he allegedly said that he shouldn’t have been driving and apologized. He remains in Warren County Regional Jail without bond.

Deaths and injuries on America's interstates have increased since the repeal of the federal 55-mile-per-hour speed limit in 1995, a new study finds, and some believe it's time to slow down again.
Researchers tracking fatalities attributed 12,545 deaths and 36,582 injuries in fatal crashes to higher speed limits implemented during the 1995-2005 study period.
"Our study clearly shows that policy can directly result in more deaths as well as reducing deaths on our country's roads," said lead researcher Lee S. Friedman of the division of environmental and occupational health sciences in the School of Public Health at the University of Illinois, Chicago.
Their results show that seemingly harmless policy decisions can have long-term repercussions, the researchers said. They called for implementation of a national speed management policy that would include a maximum speed of 55 mph and development of camera networks to curb speeding.
The report is published in the July 16 online edition of the American Journal of Public Health.

A 16-year-old boy is hospitalized today after the Ford Mustang he was driving crashed into a retaining wall, jumped over a pool and plowed into the family room of a home. No one in the home was injured, police said.
The incident occurred at 10:22 p.m. Sunday as the boy was driving eastbound on Pinehurst Avenue at about 85 mph and crashed into the retaining wall at the end of the avenue, said Placentia police Sgt. Ken Alexander. Bucky Maurin, who lives on Pinehurst, said he heard the engine of a car revving and ten seconds later heard “a big, huge impact…like an explosion.”
“This is the first time since they built the wall in 1984 that we’ve had an accident,” Maurin said, who ran out to find bricks scattered everywhere.
The Mustang landed inside the family room of a home in the 1000 block of Rashford Drive, Alexander said. The family was inside the home at the time of the incident, but no one was injured.

"Mask," one of the popular real-life characters from MMA apparel giant Tapout, died early this morning in a automobile accident in California.
Mask, who's real name is Charles Lewis Jr., died when his red Ferrari crashed into a utility pole in Newport Beach at approximately 1 a.m. local time.
The driver of a second car, a white Porsche that is believed to have been traveling at a high rate of speed next to Lewis' car, has been arrested on gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, a Newport Beach Police Department representative told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).
Lt. Craig Fox of the Newport Beach Police Department could not confirm the identity of Lewis until the Orange County Sheriff's Department notified next of kin. However, sources close to Lewis told MMAjunkie.com he was the one who died in the accident.
Lt. Fox said it's not known if either the male occupant (Lewis) or a female companion was driving the Ferrari. The female was ejected from the car during the accident and was transferred to a hospital, where she remains in stable condition.
Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Fox, a Newport Beach Police officer was on patrol in the area and witnessed both the Ferrari and the Porsche "spinning out of control on Jamboree Road between Bison Avenue and East Bluff Drive."
"It was damaged very badly," Fox said of the Ferrari. "The male was pronounced dead at the scene."
Police soon located the damaged Porsche a few blocks from where the Ferrari crashed.

A £250,000 supercar crashed on its first public test drive after two fans persuaded a garage manager to let them take it for a spin. The 420bhp Veritas RS III - built as a prototype by the Vemot AG company - had been on display at a car dealership in Moenchengladbach, Germany.
Fans Martin Holtz, 44, and Friedrich Voller, 53, persuaded the manager to let them take it for a spin. But they lost control of the V8-engined motor - which does 0-62mph in just 3.2 seconds - within minutes and ploughed into a lamppost.
Police arrested them as they tried to flee the mangled wreck, now being salvaged by mechanics. "The car is immensely powerful and they grossly overestimated their driving skills," said a police spokesman.
