Losing lottery tickets used to create HUMMER H3
With the rise in fuel prices in recent years, the HUMMER brand has been the poster child for gas-guzzling. For some, however, the rugged vehicles represent a dream come true. The husband-wife art duo of Lauren Was and Adam Eckstrom wanted to make their own H3, and they used $35,000 in worthless lottery tickets to get the job done. The couple's work of art is called "Ghost of a Dream," and the idea behind the name is that people often dream of buying a new car when they're scratching off their tickets.

The final H3 Lottery Edition looks incredibly true to life, and it includes windshield wipers, tires, tow hooks, and all its body panels made entirely out of lottery tickets. The rims are plastic molds lined with coins that represent the principal tool people use to scratch off the tickets. Even if the final work of art doesn't end up in a major gallery any time soon, at least someone has finally found a use for all those worthless lottery losers.

Diesel and Direct Injection coming for Hummer H3

Diesel and Direct Injection coming for Hummer H3
The Hummer brand in general has been on the receiving end of gas-guzzling jokes for years. Well, it appears things will soon change.

While the H3 will keep offering its existing powerplants - including the 295hp 5.3L V8, and a more fuel-efficient 242hp inline-5 - the H3 will soon offer a version of GM's popular new direct-injected 3.6L V6 beginning in the 2010 model year.

Additionally, down the road a couple years, one or two diesel options are being considered, with the possibilities including GM's new 4.5L diesel V8, or a 2.9L diesel V6 currently in development.

Hummer: now available in green.
Yeah, that's gonna take some getting used to!

Holden and Hummer to get diesel power

Holden and Hummer to get diesel power
Diesels have proven to be much more economical than similar sized petrol engines and even rate better than petrol-electric hybrid vehicles in some circumstances, so it comes as no surprise that GM Holden wants an oil-burner for its Commodore range. The Australian designed and built sedan is a crucial model in the GM Empire, its Zeta platform and RWD architecture destined to spawn several new global RWD models, and if the Commodore is to be truly successful on a global level then it needs a diesel option.

Australian media are now claiming the VE Commodore range and its long wheelbase Statesman/Caprice line will be getting the VM Motori 2.9L turbodiesel that was codeveloped with GM. This is the same engine destined for the Cadillac CTS and it’s also due to make an appearance in the Hummer H3 (limited to versions sold outside North America), reports GoAuto.

The new engine develops a generous 250hp and a massive 406 lb.-ft. from as low as 2,000rpm and first applications in the Commodore should appear in about 18 months. GM also has a new 4.5L turbodiesel V8 but this is only planned for use by GMC and Hummer for now.

Having a diesel option for the Commodore range would definitely increase the car’s chances of being exported to Europe and it may also mean that Americans could get it in the Pontiac G8.

2009 Hummer H3T pickup

2009 Hummer H3T pickup
Yes, more picture leaks!
Here it is... the 2009 Hummer H3T pickup.
The new model will be on display at the Chicago Auto Show next month.

As suspected, the H3T will have a longer wheelbase than the H3, offering a more usable bed than the one found in the H2 SUT. The H3T will also feature a standard bedrail system and four in-bed storage compartments, with a number of Hummer accessories available at Hummer dealerships.

The truck pictured is the H3T Alpha model — which swaps the standard H3's inline-five for a V8, among other changes — so look for the Alpha trim-level to be offered along side the H3T when the truck hits showrooms in the second half of 2008.

“The H3T is unique for HUMMER because it is the brand’s first true pickup," said Troy Clarke, GM Group Vice President and GM North America President.

The H3T will be built at GM's Shreveport plant beginning in October, with annual production expected to total about 35,000 units.
