Lingenfelter Concept 2010 Camaro LTA 455 CID

Let's give this another try...

Lingenfelter Concept 2010 Camaro LTA 455 CID
I think most of us remember the ill-attempt at bringing Kevin Morgan's 77' Trans Am concept to life back at the end of August. General consensus was that it needed more work to further separate it from it's Camaro base.

Enter Lingenfelter with their attempt, this time going with an early 2nd gen look. What do you think? Personally, I think it rocks! And we don't even have interior shots yet!

More in the jump!

"Check the December issue of Hot Rod Magazine for pictures and information on this new concept vehicle from Lingenfelter. The Lingenfelter 2010 Camaro LTA will be at the SEMA show in Las Vegas November 3 – 6. This custom car has the classic 71 Trans Am interior / exterior theme.

The Camaro LTA is powered by a LS based 655 horsepower Lingenfelter 455 CID engine, Corsa exhaust, custom honeycomb wheels & Nitto tires.

Possible plans are to offer these for sale in the future as a production vehicle if Lingenfelter gets enough positive response."

Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Confirmed For Q2 2011

Finally, the Convertible has been confirmed!

Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Confirmed For Q2 2011
Earlier this year, common wisdom was that the Chevrolet Camaro Convertible had been canceled, or at least delayed indefinitely. Then word came in May that the car would see launch in the first quarter of 2011. Now that has been updated to the second quarter of 2011, but it's officially confirmed by General Motors as headed to production.

The financial troubles at GM had put the car in jeopardy, but now that the New GM is on its own two feet - with help from the government, of course - the company is moving ahead with production. The news comes by way of a special GM event being held this morning in Detroit, where HGM's own Marty Padgett is soaking up the details.

Despite the slightly-later-than-hoped-for release date, fans of the Camaro and convertibles in general will be glad to hear the American drop-top is officially going to see the light of day. Ever since its concept debut in 2007, the car's classic lines and modern touch have inspired desire in many a gearhead's fantasy garage. Now that fantasy can become a reality, and will for many.

A Trend In The Making...?

Camaro beats Mustang in sales for second straight month

Tags: domestic, camaro, mustang, sales, july

A Trend In The Making...?
Last month we learned Chevy sold more Camaros in June than Ford did Mustangs. It's like 1969 all over again. Now, we did state that, "as The General has a backlog of 10,000 sold orders to fill (equating to less than a seven day supply), the streak is likely to continue for at least the next few months." But you know, with GM still being in the federal dog house and all that, plus with Ford being on the up and up, we wouldn't have been shocked to see more 'Stangs than 'Maros moving off lots during July. Only once again, Chevy beat Ford in the pony car sales department.

That said, Chevy sold about 2,200 less Camaros (9,320 vs. 7,113) in July than they did June -- and that's with Cash for Clunkers running at full tilt. For their part, Ford sold about 1,000 fewer Mustangs (7,632 vs. 6,686) month-to-month. Drawn out on a long enough graph, and Ford will eventually sell more Mustangs. That's if reading trends wasn't just like reading tea leaves. As far as why the Camaro continues to outsell the Mustang, we'll chalk that up to the Chevy's newness. Once the General fulfills all of its backlogged orders, we're thinking the Mustang is just too tough an opponent to continually beat. Even if they keep covering the Chevy in Transformers bunting. Either way, we'll see you back here next month.

GM Says Orders for Camaro outrun Supplies

Demand is high, suppliers can't keep up

GM Says Orders for Camaro outrun Supplies
June 25 (Bloomberg) -- General Motors Corp., rushing to emerge from bankruptcy as a profitable automaker, can’t keep up with demand for the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro sports car.

GM has filled about half the 25,000 Camaro orders taken, said Terry Rhadigan, a GM spokesman. Dealers, staggered by GM’s 42 percent U.S. sales decline in the first five months of the year, report that the new vehicles sell within days. Analysts say they sell for about $500 more than sticker price on average.

“I won’t have a stocked Camaro for probably a year,” said James Schmid, general sales manager at Bartow Chevrolet in Bartow, Florida. His Chevy dealership sold both its showroom Camaros at list price within a day of arrival, he said. That’s in addition to 18 custom orders the dealer filled.

GM said it began producing the muscle cars in March, and it sold 5,463 in May, according to industry researcher Autodata Corp. of Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey. The Camaro competes with Ford Motor Co.’s Ford Mustang and Chrysler Group LLC’s Dodge Challenger.

The Camaro may benefit from its use as Bumblebee in the movie sequel “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” which opened in theaters yesterday.

GM describes the Camaro as having a “taut, athletic design” that builds off the 1960s version.

No Incentives

The Camaro starts with a sticker price of $23,040 for the LS model with a V-6 and GM isn’t offering incentives, Kelley Blue Book reports.

“It is actually commanding a premium right now, as it is selling slightly above MSRP,” said Joanna McNally, a Kelley Blue Book spokeswoman. “Camaros are currently selling for nearly $500 above MSRP.”

The sports car, made in Oshawa, Ontario, is available with a 3.6-liter, direct-injected V-6 engine or a 6.2-liter V-8. When powered by the V-6, the Camaro is rated at 29 miles per gallon on the highway and 18 mpg in the city with an automatic transmission.

“The moral of the story is: design still sells,” said Erich Merkle, an independent auto analyst. “The American automakers can make a comeback if they keep their eye on the ball and design vehicles people have to have.”

Scott Montgomery, general manager at Les Stanford Chevrolet Cadillac in Dearborn, Michigan, said the Camaro is a bright spot in a difficult time. Chevrolet sales in the U.S. fell 39 percent in the first five months of the year.

The dealership has sold 15 or 20 Camaros, and new arrivals will move in a matter of hours, not days, Montgomery said.

“If I could get 50 more, I’d be in heaven,” he said.

GM engineer drops ZR1 LS9 in '69 Camaro

Big dick swingin between the knees!

GM engineer drops ZR1 LS9 in '69 Camaro
For many auto enthusiasts, the golden age of automotive styling was during 1960s, when designers had virtual free reign on their designs and didn't have to worry about aerodynamics, pedestrian crumple zones and other such ‘nuisances’. At the same time, the ‘60s could hardly be called the high point of automotive technology, and the development of engines, brakes, suspension components and transmissions still had a long way to go.

Fast forward to 2009, and legendary GM engineer and pro-touring car builder Mark Stielow appears to have created the perfect marriage of automotive styling and technology - and by this we mean a 1969 Butternut Yellow Chevrolet Camaro with GM's insane LS9 V8 dropped into its engine bay.

For the uninitiated, the LS9 supercharged V8 is the most powerful production engine GM has ever made, with a mind-numbing 638hp (476kW) and 604lb-ft (819Nm) of torque on tap. It currently resides in the mighty Corvette ZR1 supercar and is available as a standalone crate engine for $21,000.

Named 'The Jackass', Stielow’s LS9-powered Camaro also takes the same wheels and super wide sport tires from the ZR1 to help transmit all that power to the road. The only issue that could crop up from this is trying to stop the car at 180mph with the stock Camaro brakes, but luckily these have also been replaced with the same carbon-ceramic units found in the ZR1.

A quick chassis dyno reveals that the car makes around 511hp (381kW) at its rear wheels, transmitted through a Tremec T56 6-speed transmission borrowed from the Dodge Viper. With all that power, we can expect lightning fast acceleration although no performance figures have been released.

As for the price of all those tantalizing mods, Stielow revealed to Edmunds that it’s actually cheaper to buy the Corvette ZR1 – but who could say no to an LS9-powered 1969 Camaro if money was no option?

Camaro Paces the Daytona 500

First Camaro Pace Car at Daytona since 1969

Tags: chevrolet, camaro, daytona, pace car, daytona 500

Camaro Paces the Daytona 500
After a 40 year hiatus the Chevrolet Camaro is set to return to the ‘Great American Race’, starring as the Official Pace Car for the 51st running of the Daytona 500 on February 15. The annual event is regarded by many as the most important race on the NASCAR calendar and a Camaro has paced the field just twice before in Daytona 500 history. Those were in 1968 and 1969, and this 2010 Camaro is scheduled to hit showroom floors in the spring.

The particular car that will be used as the pace car of the race will be a high-performance 2010 Camaro SS decked out in a PPG Cyber Grey paint scheme. Under the hood sits an LS3 - a 6.2L V8 rated at 426hp (314kW) and 420lb-ft (573Nm) of torque.

Unique elements of the pace car include a fully integrated strobe system with GM-designed custom light bars utilizing Whelen 500 series linear strobes and a fuel-saving Tremec TR-6060 six-speed manual transmission.

Speaking at the unveiling of the Official Pace Car, Daytona International Speedway president Robin Braig said: “This 2010 Camaro will set the tone for a 21st century sports car, and that's a perfect fit to lead the pack at the Great American Race.''

Spied: 2011 Camaro Convertible

Some shots of the production convertible camaro

Tags: domestic, camaro, chevy, convertible, other

Spied: 2011 Camaro Convertible
Rhe Chevrolet Camaro Convertible may be delayed by a two years — making it a 2011 model year car instead of 2010 like its fixed-roof counterpart — but development of the drop top is ongoing. Our spy photographers managed to catch up with the Camaro Convertible earlier this week in Australia.

The most recent spy shots prove that the open air version of the Camaro won’t stray far from the coupe’s styling. The odd looking headlights seen on past prototypes have been replaced with more conventional units, as seen on the production Camaro coupe.

Out back, it looks like even the base car will get dual exhaust — something V6 Mustangs and Challengers do without. Of course, the government mandated reflectors/signals are also present.

Overall, we quite like the look of the Camaro Convertible. The retractable canvas top seems to emphasize the car’s raised rear haunches, and we can’t wait to see what it looks like with the top down.

Production of the Camaro Convertible was originally scheduled for December 2009, but General Motors’ financial woes have pushed that date back to February 2011 — giving you plenty of time to fill up your piggy bank.

More information from GM on 2010 Camaro

News from the January 9 IDL

More information from GM on 2010 Camaro
New and updated information has been released today about the 2010 Camaro:

Start of Camaro production has been re-timed to March 16, 2009.
The change in the date is the result of GM's efforts to ensure the Camaro exceeds the highest quality benchmarks established by GM for a new product. This re-timing is NOT the result of current business conditions, or any pending legal matters. The good news is that this additional time will ensure a great car from the start and exceed your expectations.

The Camaro Convertible is official for production in mid-2010 for model year 2011, in line with original plans.

Official horsepower figures: 400hp for the L99 (6.2L V8 paired with the 6L80E 6-speed automatic transmission) and 426hp for the LS3 (6.2L V8 paired with the TR6060 6-speed manual transmission).

There may be more stripe packages in the future from the factory - there are only 2 colors now.

All offered discounts will be available from the first day they're available for sale.

Door sill plates are standard on V8 models, and optional on V6 models.

Brake calipers are Black, with Chevrolet in White, and Brembo in red (can they please say Camaro instead?)

Heritage Grille Insert - as seen on the Dale Jr Concept Camaro at SEMA - has a gold bowtie.

Rear gear ratios are 3.27 in V6 models, 3.45 in V8 models.

Pirelli snow tires are recommended for 20" wheels in areas with snowy climates.

Current SS demand (80%+ of pre-orders) is not a big concern. It may or may not be cause for a constraint.

All pre-ordered Camaros will be built by October. Currently over 10,000 pre-orders are in.

GM: Camaro pre-orders over 10,000!

Camaro sales are doing quite well!

Tags: gm, chevy, camaro, sales, domestic, news, other

GM: Camaro pre-orders over 10,000!
Back in October, General Motors reported that it had already received some 6,000 advance orders for its new fifth-gen Camaro. Despite the fact that the first car has yet to be delivered to a paying customer (that's scheduled to take place in February, with the first one selling at the upcoming Barret-Jackson auction next month), pre-orders are not slowing down, with GM now reporting a total of 10,000.

According to the automaker, 84 percent of the first 6,000 requests were for V8 models, but GM is now suggesting that a larger percentage of its latest orders are for V6 models. Sounds like those jonesing for a new V8-powered muscle car were the first ones turning in their order forms. Now that those initial buyers have all reserved their Camaros, the model mix may be getting closer to what The General had expected in the first place.

Hopefully, GM and supplier Cadence, LLC get their disagreements worked out in time and these initial pre-orders can be filled in a timely manner. The last thing GM needs right now is a botched launch of its revived pony car, especially since GM has been promoting the new Camaro hardcore for the last few years.

GM sues supplier to keep Camaro production going

A delay is not an option for the upcoming Camaro

Tags: domestic, gm, chevy, camaro, other, news

GM sues supplier to keep Camaro production going
General Motors has spent millions of dollars developing and marketing its 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, which is scheduled to go into production in February. But the bankruptcy of an interior parts supplier is threatening to delay the pony car, which isn’t just bad news for GM, but could have a ripple effect on dealers and even other suppliers.

In an effort to prevent a delay of the new Camaro, GM has filed a lawsuit against Cadence Innovation LLC, accusing the company of “holding hostage” the parts it needs to put the car into production. The suit demands Cadence immediately hand over the parts and equipment required for a new supplier to take over. GM says it needs to have a new supplier in place by January 12th, or it will not be able to begin production of the Camaro on schedule.

“Even one day’s disruption in supply of certain component parts could cause a shutdown of GM assembly operations, disrupting not only GM’s business, but the operations of countless suppliers, dealers, customers and other stakeholders,” the lawsuit states.

As is typical of a supplier-automaker relationship, GM provided Cadence with machines to manufacture the interior parts it needs. Although automakers usually retain ownership of such equipment, it’s not unheard of that a defunct supplier will fail to return the machines and tools to said automaker. This was the case with Plastech, which refused to return equipment to Chrysler several months ago.

It is not clear if Cadence — which entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy in August and Chapter 7 liquidation more recently — is behaving similarly to Plastech, or if the complexity of the bankruptcy process is to blame. In any case, GM literally can’t afford to have a product as important as the Camaro delayed, so this will be a very interesting case to follow in the coming days and weeks.

If GM & Chrysler merge, which cars will survive?

Time for a battle royale!

Tags: domestic, chevy, dodge, gm, camaro, challenger, other

If GM & Chrysler merge, which cars will survive?
At first we thought the idea of a merger between General Motors and Chrysler LLC was laughable. We still do, but persistent reports to the contrary have us fearing that this marriage just might happen. Combining these two automakers would be a messy job, as many models on both sides of the fence compete directly with on another in the marketplace. If the merger does happen, someone may have to sit down and decide which models stay and which go. We decided to play arm chair auto executive quarterback and hold a Battle Royale. We've pitted model against model in 12 segments in which GM and Chrysler compete directly. In this thought experiment, only one model in each segment will survive to see the New World Order. Get to clickin' below to find out which ones make it.

Camaro SS Reveal in Australia!
"In a surprise move, simultaneously hosted in Melbourne, Australia, and the United States, General Motors has revealed the production ready version of the iconic Chevrolet Camaro sports car."

And what did those Australians reveal? Was it another RS model like the reveal in the States? Nope. Presenting the SS Camaro in production trim!

Australians were treated to the sight of a brand new base SS Camaro in Melbourne. Black in color, it was accompanied by a Camaro from each generation in front of GM Holden’s Melbourne headquarters before a crowd of several hundred excited employees, many of who had worked on the project to develop the rear-wheel drive sports car for the US market.

2010 Chevrolet Camaro revealed!

The wait is finally over....

Tags: domestic, camaro, news, info, other

2010 Chevrolet Camaro revealed!
CarTribe has procured a few shots and the initial details of the production Chevrolet Camaro ahead of its official unveiling this Monday. According to their report, the Camaro will come in LS, LT and SS trim, equipped with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic. Of course, that doesn't account for the very-obviously-marked RS car that is shown in the official photos, so who knows what the whole story is.

Engine choices include either a 296 hp, 3.6-liter V6 or a 416 hp 6.2-liter V8 which will feature cylinder deactivation to boost fuel economy. Underneath the retro sheetmetal is a full independent suspension and StabiliTrak traction control system. Four-pot Brembo brakes are mounted up front on the SS variant, and the 3,700-pound coupe will reportedly have a weight balance of 52/48, front/rear. The neuvo-retro theme is carried inside with a gauge cluster inspired by the 1969 model, along with leather seats and blue LED lighting.
