Nissan's dirty little secrets straight from the manual.
The ring lap time means nothing to the general public then. OOH, look what I can do. Pile of sh*t.
I know that on Top Gear they mentioned that the car automatically governed itself until it knew it was on a race track, fancy GPS thingy.
if u read the link, thread on thier forum i.e.: post 74+ its not that big of a deal. even GM dumps your warranty if they find out you were "out of bounds" in thier eyes.
it appears that you can go to your NHPC and have it reset after an inspection...warranty is reactivated.
time to make a new best buddy at the local nissan dealer...payment in beer.
So basically the car comes with no warranty. They should rename that launch button 'no warranty.'
nissan royaly shot themselves in the foot with this pile of shit and it's worthless warranty, and are still complete idiots for not bringing the R34 over to the US.
wow i just read one of the bullets, funny how it requires performance optimization service, yet any performance aspect of the car voids the warranty.
So I'm guessing they could check out the GPS to tell you were at a race track and void your warranty that way, too? Screw that.
@ShakeDown: the car already knows if its at a race track and removes the governor
I'm not a huge nissan fan in general, but that's pretty fucking gay and will piss off alot of people.
lawlz.
Someone will h4x0r it. Then all will be right with the world again. And realistically, folks buying an $80k sports car usually are not too concerned with warranties. Look at all the blown Vipers and turbo ZO6's.
Still a shitty thing to do.
so u got a super car that u wont be able to take above the speed limit without voiding ur warrenty, they prob do that then make things go wrond on the car, they r controling the ECU
@GeeTeeGo:
Still... if something were to happen to it, it would be nice to have it fixed without having to pay out of the ass for it.
Nissan's sales are going to go to shit now though.
Are you people completely retarded? Is launch control even that important to you? It'll make a difference of what, less than a second 0 to 60 if you know how to shift? It's not like without launch control the car becomes as fast as...well, as fast as the cars all of you are probably driving. Launch control puts additional strain on a car, whether it's a GTR or a Ferrari. If you use it at every stoplight, then yeah, you're gonna break something. Would you rather have a more comprehensive warranty and have every GTR ship for 50 grand more to cover the heightened warranty claims and become more in line with its competitors? Nissan is just covering their back so they don't get sued and yelled at by every other rich yuppie who wants cheap power but doesn't know how to handle it.
When would you want launch control, and essentially VDC turned off (which is quite difficult to drive doing so), eh? When you're at a track maybe? When your warranty is temporarily suspended anyways? Nissan doesn't want to be paying for every GTR that blows a tranny at a local track day. I don't blame them. What car company DOES cover any break downs occurring at a track? And don't give me that "Well it should be blowing trannies anyway" bull. Taking a car on a track is very hard on it, regardless of who makes it. Especially when we're talking the speeds the GTR is capable of around a corner.
And it's not like you turn off VDC once and your warranty goes out the window for good. Nissan specifically says in the owner's manual to turn it off if it is to get yourself unstuck in mud or snow. It's just any breakdowns occurring BECAUSE you turned VDC off will not be covered. If you turn on launch control once and your headlights burn out a month later, you think Nissan will tell you to F off?
There are two kinds of people who are going to be driving a GTR anyway. Some well off jerk who doesn't really know cars too well anyways, but has money to burn and sees a good deal on performance. The guy who will whine when Nissan says they won't pay for his blown turbo because the black box says he was trying to race a Porsche around an interstate. Then there's the person who bought this to drive it, who will probably take it on a track several times, and will probably put on aftermarket parts anyways, so what's a warranty to them? They're not going to be putting 30k miles on a year, and if something breaks they'll probably fix it themselves anyways.
"Nissan's sales are going to go to shit now though. "
Yeah, cause an 80k supercar numbering in the few thousands is really the main income for Nissan. Those Altimas and Maximas and Sentras and everything else is just for show, they don't make money off of them.
"wow i just read one of the bullets, funny how it requires performance optimization service, yet any performance aspect of the car voids the warranty."
Well, yeah. You purposefully beat the car to death Nissan isn't going to pick up the pieces for you. I believe the Op Service mentioned is the service you have to go through at a Nissan tech after you take it out on a track. Which, admittedly, sounds like kind of a pain and pretty expensive, but again, Nissan is trying to cover their backs. And if you spent nearly a hundred grand on a car I'm willing to bet the cost of the service doesn't hurt your wallet too bad.
"I can see a lawsuit coming...."
I wouldn't be surprised with how completely stupid Americans are these days. But no, this tidbit was put in to AVOID lawsuits.
I'm flipping between laughing my ass off and shaking my head in disgust at all the other comments of "gay", "piece of sh*t" etc. You people have no idea what you're talking about. So please, stop talking.
Thanks
Wow, what a bunch of children in hear. Are you all honestly that stupid that you need to nit pick every little thing you think might possibly, at some point, when hell freezes over, become an issue? Or is it jealousy that drives you? Are you angry because chevy had to build a super exclusive, extra expensive corvette, just to beat the base model GTRs ring time? Besides Loki, this page is so full of redneck luddites I feel like I'm at a Nascar convention.
To be honest, I would pick the ZR1 over the GTR, save for one reason, I just dont think I could live with the stereotype that comes standard with that stupid bowtie. The stereotype that you kids are doing such a good job at reinforcing. Well done retards, well done.
this is getting entertaining I say screw it why worry about something I will never own, and never even have the honor of ever voiding the warentee.
Since we are on the subject of warranties, lets see a scan of a ZR1s warranty booklet. Does the ZR1 even come with a warranty?
Some people loooooove to hear themselves talk.
BTW FlatBlack, if you're going to call others retards, please ensure that you do not make mistakes with your grammar.
Hear = to listen
Here = in regards to location
So the correct usage would look like so:
"Wow, what a bunch of children in here."
My two cents on this issue:
You buy a performance car for one reason. Even a temporary suspension of a warranty is uncalled for. And then you have to have your car inspected to have it reinstated? Lame.
Last I checked every time I took a crap I didn't have to be checked for proper wiping technique...
@FlatBlack: The Corvette ZR1 will carry GM's 100,000-mile powertrain warranty, just like a Chevy Malibu. (Source: Edmunds)
@epic: Hahahaha, I was being sarcastic, cars are too complicated these days, buying anything without a warranty would be financial suicide. Id still like to see the warranty info for the Vette, I would bet that it carries the same stipulations as the GTR.
Wow some people take there internet arguing seriously around here.
@ Loki and Flat..
how do u guys "REALLY" feel about the blog??
lol
sorry, thought it was entertaining. LOL
@GSJon
I'm pretty sure he knows already. Sometimes people make typos and nitpicking at them to attack a person's argument is, well, childish actually.
For those without the attention span to read my wall o' text, it's kinda simple. The shoddy warranty is a side effect of a low MSRP. If Nissan covered your butt every time you broke something for beating the car then you'd be paying much more for the car to begin with. Much more, in fact, than it would cost to have whatever you broke fixed in the first place. It's business, people.
how do we even know this isn't just to cover their asses anyway? we don't know if they are going to send a letter in the mail to every person who ever used the feature once on the car. it could just be there for when they get some noob kid at a dealership trying to make a warranty claim after beating on it every minute of its ownership.
@Loki:
Anyone who uses "retarded" as an attack on others as part of their argument (you included) to demean people that disagree with you is childish. Period.
Also one thing ive notice why just make a profile just to argue with the one who are part of this site?
Jon your retarded.
It's hard to defend GM on the warranty issue. When you bring in your car for warranty work they spend a day looking for stuff that will void your warranty first. You better clean up that rubber from the wheel wells first.
Nissan takes it to another level. One could argue that a chump buying that GT-R in hopes of finally getting pussy will infact mod it and it doesn't matter anyway. But what if Nissan didn't make a 100% pefrect creation and there are some weak points that stress out and fail after hard driving. No amount of testing can duplicate driving habits of a ricer in heat.
When a company makes a sports car it should be made to withstand being driven like a sports car to the full potential. Not full potential minus launch control. I would be proudly bringing my car for warranty work with race numbers still on the car. And they should not deny it. Unfortunately we live in a world of douchebaggery. No sorry, we sold you this car with 1000hp, but it shows here you went WOT, no warranty for you!
@Razor3:
Because I'm a Datsun/Nissan/Infiniti enthusiast and I hate ignorant statements like...
"damn, that car sucks more and more."
"ha what a P.O.S."
"gotta be a queer to like that"
"gay gay gay"
"Aha ha ho he aha ha ho he ha ha!"
"That's just gay."
"WHATAJOKE!!!!!!"
"nissan royaly shot themselves in the foot with this pile of shit"
...well, you get the point. I know one is entitled to one's opinion, but going through life being blatantly uninformed will get you nowhere. It shouldn't, anyway. I hope you all keep your minds open in the future and realize that not everything is a worthless hunk of metal just because it doesn't say "Chevrolet" on the door frame.
I don't understand why any car company would put a button, knob, setting or how ever you activate launch control in a car and dare someone to use it! If someone knows, please explain. Picture this, Your sitting there at a red light in your new GTR and some asshole gearhead with a procharged Camaro SS pulls up and he's taunting the shit out of you. What will you do? That would be like a factory nitrous button right on the dash. Hit it and warranty is done. How many people have enough self control to just look at it? Not me. How do you make a Super Car and dare someone to use it! F N ridiculous!
@Loki240SX:
The GT-R is an automatic. As an import person, you should know that.
if you can afford it your buying it to either look pretty or haul ass so either youll never get it out of third gear or it wil see 10000 rpm in third gear at the end of my street everyday, so one will never drive it hard enough to need a warranty or will buy upgraded parts anyway ? so evidentally nissan knows its going to break already and know they built a pos and are trying to cover it up and yes if i pay 80k for it it will see 10000 rpm daily you can bet on that
Has anyone seen the video of the Z06 and GTR in Dubai yet? Z06 won everytime. I'd rather own something I know the company that made it would fix if something was wrong without question than to have some fuck head tell me "Oh you used a feature in this car that we marketed but didn't intend for you to use so we are going to have to void your warranty sir." That's just pure bullshit.
It is a Jap crap piece of shit. Nissan sucks, I don't know why anyone would be stupid enough to waste their money a riceburner like that.
@Wesman002: My Xterra was a nice vehicle but the paint scratched really easily and the dealership fought me tooth and nail over a warranty claim. I'll never own another one simply because of my experiences with that brand.
@Loki240SX:
lol hard to drive without traction control? funny. I have yet to experience a difficulty, and although my car ISN'T all that amazingly fast, I can't imagine your average nissan/datsun/infiniti being much harder to handle than 300 or so rwtq.
......and my other two cars are a Nissan Pathfinder, and an Infiniti G35 Coupe- which i learned how to "performance" drive with (hahaha). I know nissan pretty well mate.
@Josh2000SS:
Good idea. You people have your mullets too far up your own asses to listen to anything anyways. I never thought all the stereotypes about you guys were true, but it seems I was mistaken. You all really are hopeless.
Cheers.
@Loki240SX: hey...i gotta listen to all the shit say about mustangs....suck it up. cause its all true. Mustangs are slower than Fbodies, and America>Japan...just look at WW2 man...says it all right there.
wait...is this site available overseas? I dont know how the internet works on that regard, but i know there is a myspace for austrailia which would lead to to assume that this site ISN'T popular in any other country BUT america...so...I question this...
"I wouldn't be surprised with how completely stupid Americans are these days"
lolz sorry dude- were you born in the US? then your american...
somebody hates themselves!!
I highly doubt Nissan developed the GTR's launch control system to "get you unstuck from mud or snow" or any other such rare situation. You're trying to tell me Nissian designed this car to operate in mud or snow? This car was designed to run a race track.
Sadly, this isn't the first time a auto maker has designed a car to perform well beyond it's warranty claims. As many know, the Mazda RX8 is desined with a RPM band that goes almost to 10,000 RPMs. Mazda has been known to void your warranty for too many high RPM shifts with the transmission. Why design a car to go to 10,000 RPM's when the transmission can't shift then?
You'll find many auto makers void your warranty if the car exceeds anything beyond 95mph on the street. Yet, why gear the car to go well beyond 120mph? Why not govern the car at the warranty level?
While those tend to be issues which go beyond the scope of the performance levels of a vehicle, the launch control is technology which Nissan developed and installed for the purpose of launching this car as quickly as possible. Does it make a difference? Well, it means the difference between an 11.6 and a 12.3 1/4 mile time according to Edmunds. You tell me.
No doubt the feature was included to give the average driver the ability to see the car at the top of its game. Still, voiding the warranty for a FACTORY installed feature is in my opinion...lame.
As is the well over $1,000 warranty service that must be performed when the launch control or speed limiter is deactivated when you go to the track. Honestly, if you are going to build a sports car for high end performance, you should stand behind your product. It's a means of being able to have your cake and eat it too. Auto makers want to sell fast cars, but not allow you to experience that performance.
Then again (IIRC) there isn't a single auto maker that will warranty your car if you race it on the track yet all halo cars are designed to be track cars. It's retarded.
@FlatBlack: Chevy URGED owners of the Z06 to take it out to the track. They 100% endorsed taking your vette to the road course and beating the piss out of it. So theres your answer.
Hey Loki, our "worthless" F-Bodies came with traction control that we could turn on or off. GM didn't care. Explain why Nissan does.......Regardless of which auto maker it is, it is STUPID to put a hi-tech feature on a car, make the customer pay for it, and then tell them not to use it for the inteded purpose they put the feature in there for.

Here it is....

Good read......especially post 72
http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=956146&highlight=gtr+z06+vs
many optioned c5's came with a happy button.
on/normal DD mode = traction control and active handling.
off = rear tires dont like this at all, driver in full control of handling.
hold the button down for 10sec puts the system in "competition mode".
active handling still functional with no traction control.
woot, the best of both worlds
A $70k super car. and you inbreds laugh at voided warranty.
You can get it all. You have choose. Which do you want, a low MSRP, or full warranty coverage for your abuses of the car? Even Ferraris break although Ferraris have options that cost more than some brand new cars. The GTR costs $70,000 and is a steal to begin from the start. If Nissan took losses all around to shut up the whiners, they wouldn't be in business to build the freaking car.
common sense: YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG.
So now people can be categorized by the vehicles they drive? Grow up SoupDouche.
What I find funny.... all the people starting crap in this thread in defense of the GT-R have empty F-quick garages and no info at all. meaning they signed up just to start crap... thats internet trolling at its finest.. lol.
@DaSoupDude:
Go find me a GT-R that will actually cost $70,000. eBay doesn't seem to be holding any promises for you. The cheapest I saw was at least $100,000.
You, 240SX boy, and most of the other import guys on this site are all the same. You all defend a car that NONE of you are going to ever own. You want to know why? Because you keep dumping thousands of dollars into imports which MAYBE will be decent race cars after you dump $40,000 into them.
Even when you're done with that, the guys with "the mullets up their asses" will still be at the finish line before you... for half the cost.
In terms of the automotive world, domestic guys have always been around. Then you tuner drivers showed up. Maybe it is your type that is "inbred", because you guys certainly don't belong, that's for sure.
Find one thats $70k? uhh I have a video of me walking around a base model one that costs $68k.
TTL soup.... whats the tax on 68k where you live?
Its like saying the z06 was sold for its MSRP...
The bickering in this thread is loltastic...
Some of you really think your car enthusiasts?
please.....
@HotRodJ-Rod:
"The GT-R is an automatic. As an import person, you should know that."
i actually had to create an account just to point out this very large mistake.
it not only has one clutch, it has two. if you've never driven one, i don't expect you to know the difference.
