El Camino likely out as G8 Sport Truck name

Yesterday, Cars.com attended a press event featuring the new Pontiac G8 Sport Truck. If you recall, Pontiac asked consumers to name the new model. Names came flooding in, and the company is now down to 10 finalists, and they’re going through a vetting process. According to Pontiac spokesman Brian Shipman, the name El Camino is most likely out as the name, because of internal discord about a Chevy nameplate being applied to a Pontiac vehicle. Sorry, El Camino fans.

See, I would have liked to participate in this, but apparently living in Canada disqualifies me...I was going to go with something simple like "The Pontiac Arrow"

not a big fan. Hasn't grown on me yet. I think i'd have to see it in person. I like trucks, but this looks like a deformed one. I'm not really feelin the cab. Starting from the back...the bed is fine and then it looks like it slopes down as you move to the front. Idk...like i said, gotta see it in person.

Its been out in Australia for awhile now since thats where they will be built. They're called the Holden Ute/Maloo over there and the Holden Monaro is the same as the new GTO and the same motor. Pretty sweet!

Well if they're really going thru with this Roll Eyes . Why don't they call it the PICADOR! That's what the El Camino was called in GTA San Andreas, but I guess the days of naming cars after Spanish words is gone too.

PLEASE do not ruin the G8. This truck should never be produced! I want a G8 in the future, but this truck is just hideous

Honestly.... Is there truly a market for these things? Hey let's take a cool sedan, chop the back off and make it into a pointless sport-truck? F all that noise.
