Castrol Gets The Boot

Tags: castrol, gtx, gm, domestic

Castrol Gets The BootCastrol GTX has been removed from GM's list of approved oils. The move comes after a recent test program conducted by GM to check several of their currently approved oils for compliance with the GM6094M. Look elsewhere for now if you're doing your oil changes with Castrol.

i work for Castrol and just wanted to provide a quick update on this issue if anyone is interested/concerned.

Castrol is submitting a passing result on this GM test and expects to be reinstated on GM's approved list very shortly.

In the meantime...it was only Castrol GTX 5w-30 that was impacted by this issue.
-The use of GTX 5W-30 does NOT pose any risk to the performance of GM vehicles; GTX 5W30 has a long track record of successful protection and performance in GM vehicles.
-Castrol will continue to guarantee the use of GTX 5W-30 in GM vehicles where this grade is recommended.

Hope this helps address any concerns.

GM6094M apparently was a requirement for low temperature pumpability.

Glad to see that Castrol is being active in fixing the issue. Seems like they weren't ready for a no-notice inspection though.

Independent lab tests have confirmed that Castrol GTX meets this GM6094M spec. Castrol GTX is now back on the "approved" list for GM
