One journalist thinks so.
Wouldn't traffic circles also greatly boost car efficiency, and decrease pollution, since the cars almost never have to sit and idle?
Problem is if you're not from Jersey, or a benny/ shoobie that has come to visit our shores, more likely then not, you're scared of a circle and have no Fing clue how to operate it, but IMO, as a Jersey native, they are more efficient, and safer
I'm in NYC and there are a few of them here and they are amazing. The only problem with them is that they sometimes HAVE to put them in red light locations because of people that need to cross the street. If that wasn't the case they would be very effective
They started putting those damn things here, they only work when they are large. The ones they have put in are single lane and like 6 ft in diameter.
the one i go threw on my way to work not so good theres at least one fenderbender there once a day and its a two lane its always the inside lane getting off and out side lane hitting them
There is one in Houston that i know right by where I live. It is amazing to see just how much people are stumped by these things and digress in grave acts of jackassery while attempting to travel through them.
I lived in Europe and they worked great there but then again I hardly ever saw people chatting up a storm on their blackberry, while eating a burgher, and applying mascara. People are just too damn distracted for these to work.
We have little ones here in the neighborhood beside ours their fun to drive on
The only one I've ever personally driven was the one right outside of the Atlantic City airport, I asked my mom who was in the passenger seat, "who has the right of way?" "everyone" was her answer lol
..they're not that bad.. the only problem with them, is that 95% of the people on the road have no idea what to do when entering them.
@ChevSSCamaro67: That's the one I live close to. there was another one up the road, but they took it away, now its a mess down there.

The only problem with traffic circles is the population factor with American drivers, but I'd say that if the traffic analysis makes sense for a location and there's space, then implementing traffic circles should definitely be considered. The more they're implemented, the more use to them American drivers will be, and being able to scoot through an intersection without coming to a complete stop beats being jammed up at a stop sign or a long red light.
There's a circle in my town that recently replaced a fairly busy 4-way stop sign intersection.
It's working out very well so far.
I live in NY and have a traffic circle right near my house and another not too far away I travel through on occasion.
I also lived in NJ in the late '90's.
As stated earlier; these circles confuse people. It doesn't help any that the right of way laws for them differ from state to state. In NY, the vehicles within the circle have right of way. In NJ vehicles within must yield to incoming cars. The New York way just always made more sense to me.
One thing I hope NEVER catches on is those darn jughandles NJ has.....
