Looks like the effect of the economy on GM is trickling down into the warranty world. An owner on CorvetteForum recently had a small problem and brought it to the local Chevrolet dealership only to be denied because they noticed slight modifications done to the Corvette. All it took was headers and an exhaust to get turned away. Full post in the jump!

Problem:

So I was recently on a back road and suddenly heard a clicking noise coming from the engine compartment. When I lifted the hood there was no visible problem but when you hit the accelerator pedal there is an audible clicking noise. To me it sounds like there is a rock in the plastic intake, if you can imagine what that sounds like. It is VERY noticeable on the drivers side, and barely audible on the passenger side. To me this means valve-train or intake. I checked for obvious things like something touching but alas it was internal.

Note* I have never heard what a spun bearing or a bent rod sounds like in a car.

So after the hobby mechanic inspection was complete I drove it in to the dealership to get it looked at. A day goes by and the dealership calls back and says they cannot work on the car because it has been modified, which I told the dealership service attendant up front. According to them they cannot even touch it because their engineering department says it has been modded, which means they cannot even tell me what is wrong with the car.

So what I am left with is a car that they cant tell me what is wrong with it because engineering said no, but how can they deny the warranty when they don't even know what the problem is?
