
Jonathan James Sweat, an 18-year-old Florida man was arrested Tuesday after smoking marijuana and then crashing his vehicle into the State Attorney's Office. He then informed officers he couldn't be arrested for DUI because he was high, not drunk.
According to Gainesville police, Sweat crashed his Ford Ranger into a large window at the State Attorney's office while under the influence of marijuana.
A police officer at the scene conducted three field sobriety tests which Sweat reportedly failed. Sweat was then taken to the police station for observation and to complete a breath test. Since Sweat had not been drinking, the breath test was negative.
It was then investigators say Sweat informed them they weren't "going to be able to arrest him for DUI because he hadn't been drinking. He then stated that all he did was smoke some marijuana," according to the arrest report.
Sweat was taken to a local hospital for treatment, but refused to cooperate with medical staff, according to the arrest report.
He was booked into the Alachua County Jail on charges of driving under the influence and property damage, He has since been released after posting bond.
