Although it was revealed during last year's SEMA show that the muscle behind the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 was going to be offered as a crate engine, GM Performance Parts waited until now to announce the $21,000 price that comes along with the LS9 beast.

As the company's high-end LS-series engine, the 6.2-liter LS9 V8 is rated at 638 horsepower and 604 pound-feet of torque. It jets the ZR1 to 60 mph in a mere 3.4 seconds and doesn't quit until it hits a 205-mph top speed.

The engine comes fully dressed out of the box with an ignition system, supercharger assembly and exhaust manifolds, and those interested will have to get an external coolant tank, oil tank and a wire harness to get the thing running in its new engine bay.

The crate LS9 is available for $21,000 via most GM dealers (part number 19201990) and is covered under GM Performance Parts crate engine warranty of 24 months/50,000 miles.
