Corvette ZR1 laps the Nurburgring in 7:26.4
now time to put both of them on the track and have them go at it.
yea i like how people quickly try to jump on the 100K thing or thr "spec-v" coming out. if you want to play that way, how about we cheat like nissan did and put racing tires on the ZR1 and see what happens like nissan did with the GTR. hell do it with a Z06 and ill bet ya it would out run the GTR
All I have to say is line 'em up on the 1320 and see what happens!!! It doesn't matter what the price is. It's not about the better buy, it's about the better car. And right now, the ZR1 is the better car by 3 seconds. Until GT-R or Spec V beats ZR1, Nissan is Chevy's b*tch
I don't know about the GT-R using racing tires for it's run on the Ring, but regardless...congrats to the Vette on a job well done. The ZR1 is the reigning "King of the Ring"...for now. No excueses from me, the GT-R was beat by a better car. But let's not forget that the ZR1 has more power, and is also lighter than the GT-R, so once the playing field is leveled just a little bit more, than we can see what will happen. I am not saying that the R will beat the Vette, but it just might make things a little more even-keel.
@TheBoostedOne:
nissan admitted to using race tires for the 7:29 run.
@Captain_Partick:
Seeing that the c6 z06 non Zr1 has ran high 10's stock, im sure it has the GTR covered in the 1/4
Ricers
yeah i don't see where nissan admitted to using "race tires" i thought it was the vette which had the better tires and the better weather to back it up
I'm sure you will be able to find a GT-R for under $100K. Anything that's actually fast that comes out of Japan, and that's a very rare occasion, is so out of reach monetarily and it's always limited production to make it even that much harder to get. We're mass producing 12s 1/4 cars here. What is with these GT-R vs ZR1 comparison? GT-R is slower then half the STOCK INTERNALS LS1s running around on the streets.
@TheBoostedOne: i wouldn't call it evening the playing field by bringing power up and weight down in the GT-R. it still has a ton of computers and techno-wizardry, and lets not forget AWD, that the ZR-1 doesn't have. like the Z06, the ZR-1 has minimal computer aids, while the GT-R is more like the EVO X (though not as bad), so much computer crap you could put a monkey behind the wheel and it'll get around the track decently well.
soo why did the GT R need slicks and a "better suspension than stock(but might be on American and European models but no one is sure of that)" to drop from 7:38s to 7:29s? and the ZR1 did it in 7:26 show room stock?
@DaSoupDude: Nissan admited to using slicks. the ZR1 used the stock michelin tires
wait what..techno wizardry..the only techno gizmo that thing has is a screen which tells you boost pres and lateral g force..memory stored on a HD dosen't exactly weigh your car down. and i'm still trying to find this race tire article, someone send me a link
So the epic top of the line Corvette beat a base model Skyline and only after MONTHS of trying, trying, and trying again :p
Also Nissan did not EVER admit to using slicks or shaved tires. That was a mullet powered rumor straight from this side of the pond lol.
All that being said it's about damn time that a car with over 100whp more actually pulled it off and a clap on the back is deserved at the Chevy camp as Nissan set the bar pretty damn high. Can't wait to see what happens next!
The wizardry is the set it in this mode, push this button, throw this lever, count to 5 or 6, hop on 1 foot around the car 3 times, get back in and buckle and unbuckle your seatbelt 2 times and hold the clutch for 10sec and if done correctly and in the right amount of time, the car will hold optimum boost on it's own for optimum launch. I think that is the correct sequence, don't quote me on that though. Also, I believe Chevy just might have to travel alittle bit farther with the Vette than Nissan does with the GT-R to test there. I don't know about the tires debate but regardless, ZR1 bettered GT-R by THREE seconds. That's a long time in racing. Like others stated about the GT-R having the better time until ZR1 could best it, until Spec V beats ZR1, Nissan as ben teh OWNED!
okay so chevy knocked nissan off the thrown after a few months. this pretty much means nothing to us because even if we had the money there is no way any of us will get one, especially at sticker. so in the end, the GTR may not rule the 'ring, but it will remain the king of road in America because there will be no competition. every zr1 purchased will become a trailer/garage queen due to it's limited availability and dealers making up for hard times by taxing the wealthy with their above sticker premiums. meanwhile, i'll be trying to combat the foreign aggression with my good ol' 39 year old detroit muscle
Nissan is only releasing 1500 GTRs in the first year.
@ CoryisLost, dude all you do on FQuick is try to knock American Cars. Seriously, suck it up. Jap Crap Loses. With slicks, against regular tires. American is better than Jap. Go live in Japan if you like it so much. The Corvette that they were trying to beat was a concept FYI. It wasnt the production and was MUCH slower than it is now. I can't wait to see what you SAY next!
@Coryislost:
again, yes they did admit to it like 00blackss said. and yea i do remember reading about the supposed upgraded suspension thing to.
and weamdog, no the GTR wont rule the roads. road coarses maybe, but the Z06 is still a faster car so it still has to catch up to it before they even think of going after the ZR1
By the time the Spec - V comes out, there will be a faster Corvette, rest assured.
So is the Spec-V going to have to use race tires and get a rolling start to beat the ZR1 too?
Nissan = Cheaters
Chevrolet = Import Eaters
This is all coming from a Ford guy, way to go chevy, ya did something right
I can't belive people are actually trying to make excuses for nissan
the ZR1 is in another class than the GTR. The brakes alone slap nissan in the face.
ZR1 was made to take on exotics. There was no way a GTR would have beat this car.
ZR1>>GTR...End of story
everyone made fun of me for talking shit about the zr-1...well well well. i got something to say to all those who made fun of me...FUCK U ZR1 I NUMBER 1!
Compare the GT-R to the Shelby Super Snake. The SSS will KILL the GT-R!
BYAH!
Just so we're all clear here.... CHEVY used a rolling start for this record JUST as Nissan did. The GT-R did NOT use slicks, nor an upgraded suspension (again, just a nasty mullet powered rumor), it used the very same tires that it rolls off the assembly line with.
Also, I do not bash domestic cars here, in fact I have an appreciation for ANYTHING that's clean and fast! I do however tell it like it is regardless of how butthurt people get. This is the top top top of the line Corvette competing with the base model skyline, it took MONTHS for Chevy to break Nissan's standing record and that's with way more hp than the Nissan brings to the table. Well congrats! Even though the Chevy had pretty much all the advantages it took months for them to beat the GTR. They're both awesome cars but really lets try to keep this in perspective. Shouldn't it? Why did it take so long?
Also, I love how some fags get so butthurt they feel they have to go to my page and rate my cars lower because of it! Hilarious!
@Coryislost: Its because you SAY you arent bashing domestics but all you do is mock them and talk about how they suck. Denial isnt just a river in Egypt, its your life.
Show me where I've bashed on a car simply because it's a Domestic. I'm sure that'll be the end of the thread since there are no such instances.
Your 1st post on this blog is bashing, not only to domestics but those of us who prefer domestics over imports...."mullet" So with that, should we refer to you as a ricer since you prefer imports over domestics?
@Captain_Partick:
my thoughts exactly. and it sounds to me like your the one trying to make excuses. yea chevy did use a rolling start like nissan did, but yes nissan did admit to using slicks and an upgraded suspension, and if it was a rumor, i dont think it would actually be published as saying nissan admitted it...
The mullet thing was a joke kids calm yourselves. Do you have a mullet? If not then piss off I'm obviously not talking to you. Call me a ricer if you want, I drive a car made in Normal Illinois.
Show me where NISSAN admitted to using upgraded suspension and slicks? Not some fanboy site on the internet or trash talk blog but an actual official Nissan site. That's what I thought.
1st, "piss off" seems like you are the one needing to calm down. 2nd, the mullet comment WAS targeted at those people going along with the race tires subject and not used as a joke rather than a discriminative way to get back at that particular group of people from saying Nissan used race tires as you haven't heard of them doing so. 3rd, you ask if I have a mullet and if not, you're not talking to me whereas I bet those you targeting with that comment doesn't have one either. 4th, if you are only targeting those whom have mullets, how do you know that they are saying such about the tires and it's a group of people with mullets? 4th, a ricer isn't just a term like mullet is. It's not a discriminating, derogatory noun, it's more of an adjective as it describes a state of mind, character and personality.
all this talk is useless. Z06 is the supposed to be in the same class as the GTR. spec-v is the zr1 of the "skyline."
@Captain_Partick:
Tell you what Patrick, if I've offended you then I'm sorry I didn't mean to. How about that, feel warm and fuzzy again? I hope so because you still haven't shown ANY credible evidence that the GTR used
1. An upgraded suspension
2. Race slicks
Again, random blogger web sites and your buddies do not count as "credible" evidence
Please show where Nissan or their engineers have said this I'm dying to see the source. Sure I've heard the RUMORS which Nissan has already stated they were in fact not true.
Again, I'm just a car enthusiast but one things for sure. Though this site seems to be geared for all car enthusiasts a whole lot of the higher displacement folks sure get pretty upset when you cheer for something made overseas :p
You haven't offended me at all. It takes alot to get me upset but I'm not afraid to defend my loyalties and state the obvious. Never have I said that Nissan used race tires and in fact, I don't care. The bottom line is car vs car, ZR1 vs GT-R, ZR1 wins!!! And not just by a small margin......3 secods worth. These cars are way too different to try to compare. ZR1 has more cylinders/ci/maybe cost more/top line Vette/weighs less/ etc. GT-R has 2 power adders/many more driver's aids or performance electronics/AWD/Spec V coming soon/ etc. That's why I just compared these 2 cars times.....period. ZR1 vs GT-R, ZR1 wins. ZR1 vs anything else, we'll see when something steps up.
@coryislost
Don't generalize people who drive American cars.
We're sorry it costs less to make our power, and that our vehicles have more power potential.
The GT-R, Skyline, and NSX are just the few of ANY stock Japanese car that can even go reach 155 in a reasonable amount of time. Here in America, there happen to be quite a few cars that have the potential to do that. Corvette C6, Z06, ZR1, Mustang GT, Chevy Camaro SS, Pontiac G.T.O., Pontiac G8 GT, Dodge Challenger SRT-10, Viper R/T 10, SRT-10, Ram SRT-10, Ford Lightning, Mustang Cobra, Pontiac Trans Am WS6, Shelby GT500...
Sure, you can say this and that about the Mitsubishi Evo's and the Subie WRX STI's have so much power to them and this and that, but only one problem. You pay $30,000 for the damn car that can barely meet ends with most-likely beaten previous generation LS1 Camaro.
But let's get this in line. You wanna knock folks with displacement? I could go out there right now, buy some old 5.0L Mustang for below $1,000 and still wipe the floor with some guys new Mitsubishi Eclipse. Even worse for you import fellas, for what it cost for that guy to spend on that spiffy little Eclipse, the Mustang guy with the same amount of money can destroy anything that was ever made by Mitsubishi, including your EVO's.
You can say all you want, but even with older American cars like per say my Dodge Aspen, I bought the car in perfect condition for $2,900. 25,000 original miles, no rust at all, original paint. For an additional $800 I was able to do all the custom paintwork and bodywork that I wanted, and for the same amount of money bought brand new wheels and tires. I picked up a RUNNING 360 small block V8 for even less money, and after investing my money into that as well, it'll launch the car into the mid-13's AT LEAST.
And you know what? All this for UNDER $8,000. So try and do that with your Eagle Talons, Mitsubishi Eclipses, Honda Civics, Acura Integras, Subaru Impreza, Toyota Camry, or whatever the hell you're trying to modify, by the time you make it a reliable 13 second car, you've already spend enough money to get a Camaro, Mustang, or Firebird and turn it into a reliable 11 second STREET LEGAL car.
So STOP knocking domestics just because a car you'll most likely never be able to afford actually performed decently. Whether it was done with outside assistance or not by means of suspension upgrades, tires, or anything else is anyones guess.
dudes. shut the fuck up.
import vs. domestic arguements never end. no one will ever say "omg youre right im driving the wrong car i'll sell it and go buy that instead!"
@HotRodJ-Rod:
Reading comprehension really isn't your forte is it bud? As mentioned previously I can respect anything that's fast and clean and your arguments are the typical hilarity that I've come to expect from most of the members of this site.
Here's a tip, your car that gets reliable 13's for 8k..... Yeah, you can easily do that in an old 1st generation talon for the cost of the car 2500 to 3k and just a few boltons for probably less than 800 bucks. I didn't get in to the cost / hp argument because there's always a million ways that can go. As far as the original post goes. The top of the line vette that costs more beat the base gtr, surprising? Not really. Took long enough? Yes
WOOO HOOOO!!!! Finally a Corvette that I would buy.....it took the GM boys long enough to make a true sports car......and amazingly....its the only american sports car to beat any respectable european and japanese sports car....even though it was 6.2 litre...supercharged....vs a 3.7 turbo......I am no GT-R fan so don't misjudge me...
.....i just can't wait till the new porsche killer is unleashed.....( L ) <- hint, hint......good job GM
@Coryislost:
Anything that is fast and clean is good by me as well, but dumping money into a FWD drive car is a waste of money, time, and is just a bad investment over all.
And in regards to my reading comprehension, comprehend this. YOU'RE WASTING YOUR TIME AND MONEY. For the same amount that you mentioned to build at reliable 13 second ricepot, you could build a reliable 11 second domestic. You can argue this and that about it, but I know a man locally who is selling is 1978 Nova with all the works done to it... $3,200. It runs 11's.
GT-R?: 11.7 for Edmunds, top speed of 193 MPH.
Z06?: You can just type in stock 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. It looks like people that have owned these cars since 2005 have been taking them into the high 10's and low 11's... STOCK. Not to mention already that it's top speed is also 198 MPH.
All this is done with a push rod engine series that's over 10 years old now. It sure took an awful long time for any import below $100,000 to make power that came close to that of an American V8.
Oh, and by the way, if you think the GT-R is going to match the Corvette on terms of power-vs.-price, I wouldn't really place my bets on the GT-R camp. Go ahead onto eBay. People are already asking OVER $100,000 for a GT-R! Someone could order a new Z06 for less, WAYYYYY less and still get the same (if not BETTER) performance.
I won't even bring in the Shelby Super Snake into this ordeal...
750 horsepower for less than either a Z06 or a GT-R seems damn good to me.
That's right, GT-R on the streets and it meets a stock Z06, not ZR1, Z06. And also like I've been saying, line them up in a straight line and see what happens.....
